As a part of our big gear-up for spring and to celebrate the weather staying above 50 degrees, we’ve come up with some ways to awaken your dorm or apartment, just in time for spring.

1. Brighten Up the Walls

Most of the walls I’ve come across in student housing are white and blah. How inspiring, right? Adding colorful paper to the walls creates a fun backdrop for a TV or other focal point in the room.

2. Utilize the Ceiling

Tape is your friend here, and so is construction paper. You can hang flowers, planes, stars, etc. from the ceiling and all you’d need is paper, tape & string. Cutting out tons of tiny, brightly colored stars or flowers would make for an awesome atmosphere for relaxing. You can also try different material, like tissue paper, to go for a different look.

3. Draw On Your Windows

With windows often looking dirty and boring, create a flower garden of your own with window markers. They come in a variety of colors now, and some have really cool effects. Draw flowers for a garden, a beach scene with sand and waves, or just fun shapes to give your window a facelift and bring color into the room.

4. Use Wall Stickers from Ikea or Target

My couch is growing a garden and I couldn’t be more proud. IKEA’s decorative stickers don’t tear the paint off and can bring some fun, removable decoration to your dorm walls. They’re big enough to take up a wall but aren’t too serious or too bold to take attention away from other aspects of the room.

5. OPEN YOUR WINDOWS

The best advice I can actually offer you to spring-ify your dorm is to open your windows! Turn off the AC and let the summer air cool you off. Take advantage of it too, because I have a feeling once July hits we’ll want to lock ourselves inside again.
