Quick and easy are two words that can be used to describe the Boost Drexel. Though they have only been around since the beginning of April, the group seems to be attracting some attention. The Boost is a student-run organization at Drexel University that sends newsletters and updates about what is going on around campus and in the Philadelphia area. What makes them different from other student organizations is that they want to inform you quickly and peak your interest! By subscribing to their email list, you get a daily dose of life at Drexel University. Cool, right?

The Boost Team is made up of students who met in consulting classes. They are all friends, but the person who is credited with bringing them together for the Boost is Dana D’Angelo, their teacher. According to the team, D’Angelo united them and gave them the freedom to create the Boost.

There are currently five members that are a part of the Boost team. Jeff Nowak, a legal studies business major, writes for the Boost daily and receives editing support from Nicole Rosenau. Social media has played a huge part in this group’s success. Sara Golshahr, a finance major, is the Instagram expert and the interviewer for the “What’s Up” section. Marketing major, Madison Read, reads the posts and spreads the word about the Boost through Twitter. Ethan Bresnahan, an entrepreneurship major is the guy behind the Snapchat stories.

The Boost members remarked on how the organization has helped their ability to work as a team. The group unanimously agreed that working with the Boost, in comparison to working on an in-class group project, is much more productive.

“You have more freedom to test ideas and go with your gut [with the Boost]. You work with all kinds of people and truly get the real world experience of meeting deadlines, relying on others to complete their parts, bouncing off creative ideas, and handling constructive criticism,” Sara said. “When you get to start from the bottom up with a group, it is isn’t just a project, it becomes your life, your ‘baby.’ We were/are all devoted to it, and you can’t find that in a regular group project.”

Madison echoed that sentiment, “You aren’t working with your professor who can give you tips or steer you in a certain direction over another, you are making collaborative decisions that will ultimately either allow your campaign to succeed or burn out,” she said.

The Boost members also really care about the quality of their work. “I read it 15 times before it goes out and concentrate on every detail,” Jeff said. “Our group works well together and doesn’t even allow the thought of failure or incompletion enter our heads.”

The Boost has also helped the team members grow and learn more about themselves. “The Boost has shown a new skill set for me through conducting interviews. I have developed people skills that I knew I had, but never got to develop to this extent. I am a finance major, but now I am thinking to find a more personal side in business. I uncovered my natural act of communicating, listening, and getting people to open up,” Sara said.

All the members of the team have diverse goals about what they want to do after graduation, but for all of them Drexel and the Boost is just one step along the way.

The Boost team is doing great things for our community and Madison left us with some great advice: “It always goes back to that whole notion that we are only 20-22 years old, what difference can we really make? But the truth is there’s a lot that we can do now, there’s efforts that we can put forth that can change our outcomes in the future,” she said.

The Boost is an awesome organization run by awesome students from Drexel. Make sure you check out the Boost’s Facebook page and Twitter account. Subscribe to their email list, too. Keep yourself boosted on what’s up on campus!
