With warmer days quickly approaching, the dramatic eyes and bold crimson lips of winter begin to transition into the dewy complexions and soft colors for spring. Take a cue from the youthful beauty looks seen on the runway and allow your natural beauty to be the main focal point.

Read on for five freshfaced spring makeup tips that can carry you from the library to your trip to the beach.

1. Keep your base simple with a sheer tinted moisturizer and cream highlight

This will even out your skin tone while still letting any freckles you may have show through. Get the most natural finish by applying with clean hands and skip the powder for a dewy glow. Finish off with a cream highlighter on your cheekbones to create a lit-from-within look.

My Picks: bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream,

Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up Cream-to-Powder Highlighter

2. Create a natural flush by applying a soft pink blush

Look bright and youthful by replicating the rosy color your cheeks turn after taking a walk in the cold. Lightly sweep along the top of your cheekbones and blend down to where you naturally blush. Use a powder if your skin leans more on the oily side. If you have normal to dry skin, a cream formula can be used for a dewy finish.

My Pick: Benefit Cosmetics Hervana Box o’ Powder Blush

3. Brighten up your eyes with white eyeliner or an iridescent shadow

Open up the eyes by applying white kohl eyeliner to the bottom waterline. This will create the appearance of larger and brighter eyes (use nude eyeliner for a more subtle effect). Or you can highlight the inner corners and bring light to your eyes with a shimmery creamcolored shadow.

My Picks: Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten,

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Eyeliner in Nude

4. Fake a good night’s sleep with a brightening under eye concealer and mascara

Look well rested by covering up any dark circles or under eye bags with a brightening peachtoned concealer. Apply in an upside down triangle and gently tap with your ring finger to blend in. Then, swipe on a couple coats of lengthening mascara to widen your eyes.

My Pick: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer

5. Complete the look with a swipe of tinted lip balm or sheer gloss

Finish off your freshfaced look with a sheer rose lip. Lightly apply a tinted lip balm or a moisturizing gloss in a your-lips-but-better natural pink shade.

My Pick: FreshSugar Lip Treatment in Rose

Even while struggling through all of the stress that comes along with finals week, this simple makeup will create a fresh faced and wide-awake appearance (even if you spent all night cramming for that biology exam). It’s time to rock the effortless look of luminous skin, flushed cheeks, and bright eyes.
