5 Things to Do on Leap Day 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

This year, we get an extra day thrown in the mix – an extra day between today and graduation, between today and your birthday, between today and the first beach day of the summer. Sounds almost like a punishment to us. Fight back against the day that pushes all your favorite days back another 24 hours with one or more of these activities that will help to liven up your leap day.

1. DIY makeover a room in your house.

Freshen up a room in your house on this extra day of 2016. Paint the walls, change up your comforter set, make a new picture display, light some candles … anything! If you need help coming up with ideas, Pinterest is full of great DIY home projects!

2. Treat yourself to an at home spa day.

If you’re feeling a little stressed during this time of year (or if you just want to treat yourself) indulge in an at-home spa day! Sometimes you just need an extra day to lather up and take care of your body; this year, you’ve got that luxury!

3. Binge watch an entire season of your favorite show.  If we do the math and scheduling correctly, we could probably get in more than just one season … but let’s not be too ambitious here. Whether you’re a Netflix nut or a habitual Hulu watcher, you’ve got so many binge-watching options that we’re actually worried you’ll spend the whole day deciding what to watch instead of actually watching it.

4. Plant a garden.

Late winter is the perfect time to get your plants ready for spring. Spend some time in the fresh air and plant some flowers or veggies and get ready to watch them bloom.

5. If you were born on a leap day, go out and tell the waiters it’s your fifth birthday.

Well technically you would be 20 years old but it would only be the fifth real birthday you’ve had … so we say go for it.

Wait, February 29th is a Monday this year? Looks like we’re spending that extra day in class, so maybe celebrate leap day on the 28th. Let us know how you celebrated your Leap Day 2016 in the comments, on Facebook, or on Twitter!
