4 Reasons You Should Shop in the Men’s Section

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

Whether I’m online shopping or browsing a store in person, I never leave without looking through the men’s section. As a woman who often wears men’s clothing, and whose closet is 90 percent basics, I’m here to let you girls know that the men’s section is where you should be shopping for your wardrobe essentials!

I’m sure that by now, after a few months or a couple years of college under our belts, we know how to stretch our money. Personally, I can admit that I spend a little too much on clothes and shoes. This brings me to reason number one why you should be shopping in the men’s section: it’s cheaper. You can read a scary amount of articles online that confirm this as a fact, showing that the same items, across brands, are cheaper for men than they are for women.

How many times have you purchased something, like a white T-shirt or a sweater, and after only a couple of wears it either looks worn out or it just doesn’t feel the same? I’m sure your answer was along the lines of “too many!” Reason number two why you should be shopping in the men’s section: the clothes are better quality. Regardless of how little you pay for a men’s item, you can bet that it’ll still be of better quality than the same item from the women’s section.

Reason number three is the explanation for why you love wearing your boyfriend’s clothes so much: they’re way more comfortable than your own! This ties into the factor of quality. Better quality means the clothes feel better, and more comfortable to wear, and we all know how important comfort is!

If you’re still not convinced to shop in the men’s section, reason number four is the one to make you switch sides: everything is bigger! Don’t be fooled, bigger is better when you’re talking about bigger pockets and bigger compartments on your backpack. Your iPhone and your keys will thank you for their new, roomier home.

Now that you know why you should be shopping in the men’s section, here’s what you should be shopping for! Basics like T-shirts, button-down shirts, sweatshirts, and sweaters are great places to start. Of course, sweatpants and accessories like socks, bags, and hats are also great when they’re cheaper. If you’re worried about men’s clothing being too boxy or masculine on you, experiment with different sizes, styles, and silhouettes until you find what’s right for you. Sizing is the trickiest part when trying to pull off men’s clothing, but it’s not impossible to find the right fit!
