Spring Fashion Month (yes, month) just wrapped up as March came to a close. As next season’s lines from coveted designers and fresh names alike were debuted in New York, London, Paris, and Milan, editorial coverage of the shows has allowed ample time for the details of the runway collections to be adapted and made street-style friendly. Although the collections debuted are a season ahead of when their pieces will be wearable, you can still stay ahead of the style game and in a few weeks you can claim “Called it!”. We’re predicting that these three Fashion Week trends are about to hit it big in the USA.
1. Nearly Naked Skin
Spotted: Paris Fashion Week
For the most part, the designers taking part in PFW let their clothes do the talking and kept makeup relatively minimal. We saw lots of nude lips, champagne eye shadows, and even au naturale bold brows. There wasn’t even a red lip in sight of Valentino’s dramatic collection (pictured). While the ‘no-makeup makeup’ trend had a run stateside earlier this year, the days of using primer, foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, mascara, and lip gloss to achieve this look are gone! Parisiennes are all about swiping on a BB cream (goodbye, six-shade contouring palettes) and a moisturizing lip balm and going on their way. After all, in the Philly heat no one needs a melting face full of makeup.
2. Itty Bitty Bags
Spotted: Milan Fashion Week
While it may not be as fun as tiny bikinis might be (after all, it’s only April!), we can promise that downsizing your purse is WAY more practical. Italian legends Dolce & Gabbana outfitted their models in bold ensembles complimented by fun-sized bags and clutches full of personality. Try ditching your giant, plain tote for a statement bag when you’re walking around campus. It’ll also be easier on your back and result in far less tension in your shoulders.
3. Power Onesies
Spotted: London Fashion Week
Across continents, the verdict is that this season’s Fashion Weeks all channeled heavy 80’s-era influences. Nowhere was this more prevalent than LFW, where multiple designers debuted statement one-piece pantsuits. Louis Vuitton went for a sporty vibe with a colorful, athletic aesthetic while Saint Laurent was all business with an all-black sequined bodysuit complimented by a luxe black blazer and satin pumps. Since the fall/winter collections were debuted at LFW, you can channel this look for spring with a fun romper if you’re in classes, or a sleeveless pantsuit you can layer with a blazer à la Saint Laurent for an easy transition from co-op to happy hour.
