Last week, we payed appropriate respects to our faithful and supporting parents by recognizing that we aren’t perfect all the time … or ever. However, they aren’t the perfect parents either. We’re in college trying to be independent while still maintaining contact and it can become exhausting trying to constantly please them. To follow up on our list of 23 Things Students Do That Annoy Their Parents, we came up with 23 things our parents do that annoy us!
They annoy us by:
1. Constantly reminding us that we’re at Drexel to study.
Â
2. Asking to meet every friend we have on an afternoon visit.Who has time for that?
Â
3. Threatening to call the Philadelphia Police Department if we don’t respond to a text within 15 minutes.
Â
4. Offering to call our professors if we’re struggling in a class or we did badly on a test.Â
Â
5. Liking every status update we post. Then commenting and questioning us if we write anything other than “Had a great time in class today! #LearningLots”.Â
Â
6. Complaining about how few opportunities we have to come home for a weekend.Trust us, the quarter system is kind to no one. We would if we could.Â
Â
7. Asking for a daily meal recap just to make sure we’re eating at least one serving of vegetables per week.Â
Â
8. Taking tons of pictures every time they visit. It’s been a week, nothing’s changed, we promise.
9. Giving a disapproving look when they find out we went shopping.Living on a budget doesn’t have to mean living in last season’s jeans …Â
Â
10. Giving the same disapproving look when we eat out and spend more than $10 on a meal.We have to eat!
Â
11. Essentially disapproving of any activity that doesn’t involve studying. It’s only week 2. I have time to drive to Walmart this Saturday.
Â
12. Getting all excited if any man is somehow involved in our lives.“Oh you have a date? Is he your new boyfriend?” “Mom, he’s just my lab partner. I literally have to meet up with him to work on our lab report.”
Â
13. Assuming the worst about our weekend plans. No, there won’t be any booze or parties, just brownies and Netflix.
Â
14. Harassing us to call our aunt or our grandparents or the dog for every birthday, anniversary, dentist appointment, etc.
Â
15. Sending us every cautionary report issued about the West Philadelphia area. And asking if we’re: a) Locking the doors b) Worried for our safety c) Involved in any direct or indirect way.
Â
16. Planning lots of activities during our week-long breaks.Sleep should be the only thing on the schedule unless approved by both parties.
17. Insisting that every obstacle is a learning experience with no sympathy whatsoever.Â
Â
18. Having a busier social life than us.Â
Â
19. Changing the Netflix password around Finals Week because they doubt our self control. It’s called a study break …
Â
20. Encouraging us to take control over our personal finances once we hit 21.That’s when personal accounting just becomes super simple, right?Â
Â
21. Judging our fashion choices. We have pictures from when you were in college. You have no room to talk.Â
22. Attempting to stay up to date on current trends and events.
Â
23. Passing along their annoying parent-like behavior and mannerisms while we’re still in college.Somehow we’ve become the mother of our friend group. How??Â
