Road trips are a great way to make some of the best memories with your friends. However, nobody ever said they wouldn’t be stressful. Between the ups and downs, whether you’re going to one destination or touring the country, here are 12 moments you’ll experience on a road trip with friends.

1. Starting out excited

You managed to get everyone in the car. You just set off on the road and the anticipation is contagious! With everybody in a great mood, you’re bound to be excited about the upcoming adventures.

2. Fighting for the aux chord

You and all your friends each have your own favorite songs that you want to listen to, so everybody in the car is fighting over what song to jam out to. All it takes is one person to put on a throwback and, suddenly, the tension is eased and everybody is singing along.

3. Getting lost

You might not travel too far out of the way, but somebody will inevitably mess up reading the GPS. Don’t fret, though. It might be an annoyance but if you keep it cool, there won’t be any bickering.

4. Having the time of your life!

You get to your (first) destination, and it’s everything you could have asked for! You and your friends are having the time of your lives. You’re visiting a new place, seeing breathtaking and monumental sites, and enjoying the local food and the nightlife. What’s not to love?

5. Sharing each other’s clothes

You all packed your favorite outfits. However, the grass is always greener on the other side, so you switch clothes anyway. That’s just a given when good friends go on a trip together.

6. Disagreeing over what to do

After a while, people have different ideas about what they want to do. It’s only natural with so many people on one trip. Eventually, you come to a consensus …

7. … But one person isn’t having fun anyway

You finally agree on what to do, but somebody still isn’t having fun anyway. Everybody else feels bad, but does the guilt triumph over your own desire to discover new experiences?

8. Getting on each other’s nerves

It’s bound to happen. Sometimes spending ALL your time with people for days straight will make you get on each other’s nerves. This is when you split up and take a break from each other to catch your breath. Good friends will be able to get over this hump and continue having fun.

9. You’re going to spend a LOT more than you think you will …

… No matter how much you planned to budget …

10. … And everybody’s going to go home broke anyway.

Having fun is bound to be a lot more expensive than you’d expect.

12. Being extremely tired on the ride home

After days and days of driving, exploring, partying and experiencing a new place, you’re all going to be pretty wiped out. The car ride will be pretty silent and calm with everyone updating social media about your amazing trip.

12. You have the best memories ever

Through the good and bad events of a road trip, it’s still worth it in the end. Making these amazing memories with friends is what college is about! Let us know about your summer road trips in the comments section!
