Why Friendsgiving is Awesome

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dickinson chapter.

Once November begins, most students are more than ready for Thanksgiving break.  Not only is it nice to have a much-needed break from school, but it is also great to be able to look forward to eating as much as humanly possible on Thanksgiving day.  Having Thanksgiving with family is always nice, but I have also enjoyed spending it with friends.  Although seeing friends on Thanksgiving day tends to be difficult due to scheduled family plans, I have found that scheduling a Friendsgiving on a different day during break usually works out well.

Friendsgiving is something that I definitely look forward to every year given the fact that it tends to be much more laid back than Thanksgiving family dinners.  If everyone brings a simple dish or two, it comes together very quickly.  Since my friends and I are horrible at cooking, we usually bake or bring something made elsewhere.  However, for those of you who are good at cooking, it could be a fun way to try making new foods whether they fit the holiday theme or are completely unrelated.

So, if you’re someone who loves Thanksgiving, and feels as though having it once a year isn’t enough, I strongly recommend considering to host a Friendsgiving with your friends from home. Thanksgiving break goes by incredibly quickly, so it is nice to set aside time for all of your friends to reunite and enjoy some of the amazing Thanksgiving food for a second time.  It can be as simple or extravagant as you want it to be, which makes it very easy to coordinate and fun to organize.
