Ranked: Dickinson’s Fall Finals 2017 Study Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dickinson chapter.

It breaks my heart to have to say it but the time is upon us once again. You can feel it in the air. A simultaneous feeling of both stress and the complete avoidance of responsibilities. Your skin is breaking out, the library is suddenly more crowded than it has been all semester, you over hear the casual “can you swipe me in” on your way into the caf and the dden is fresh out of energy drinks. Finals week is approaching.

For the past week and a half, I have been surviving solely on black coffee, mint gum and Advil. Now in order to make this painful marathon more bearable, the Dickinson administration provides little “study breaks,” mostly in the form of free food, to students. It also is conveniently something “fun” that can be used as a talking point during tours to the school. Excuse me, not the point of this article, I know. So to help you decide which of these you should partake in, I’ve decided to rank them for you. No need to thank me, I’m just procrastinating.

1. Mac & Cheese Bar: Wednesday, SNAR: 9:30.

Usually I’d rank the pretzel truck as number one and suggest you get a pizza stuffed pretzel, but unfortunately it is not on the schedule this semester. I am broken up about it. But, let’s all be honest the Mac & Cheese is the best food the school offers. Go get some. Sprinkle some bacon on top. Bring a tupperware and eat your feelings.

2. Grilled Cheese Food Truck: Thursday, Britton: 7:00pm

Okay so from what I can tell this is a new food truck. I don’t think it’s been here before during exam week. I’ve decided to rank it number two because I am hopeful it will make up for the pretzel truck. The jury is still out. I mean, stuffed bread with cheese was kinda what I was looking for so hopefully it will live up to my expectations.

3. Biblio Exam Treats: Wednesday and Thurday, Lib: 8:00 and 9:30

I decided to combine both the pb&j night and the biblio treats night together for this one and rank it number three. I mean it’s never really the best food, but its very convenient- you don’t have to wait out in the cold or even go outside, and it’s pretty good. Usually they have them every night even though they don’t advertise it. A down side of this is they usually shut down the biblio early so they can set this stuff up. Moral of the story is get your large tea beforehand and get there a little before the time it says.

4. Breakfast Night: Monday, Caf: 9:00pm

Or as they have decided to call it this year, the “moonlight breakfast” which I think is a silly name. Go early. Get some hash browns. Eat and cry. Breakfast in the caf but at night. Other dining locations may close early to accommodate this. You can manage to sneak out a plate of food for your friend, not encouraged but possible. See you there.

5. Relaxation Lounge, Hub side room on Tues.

Honestly what? Kind of interesting, kind of weird. Go with friends if you want but I honestly don’t really plan on being there. I’ve been once or twice and don’t remember much of it.

6. Chicken Truck, Britton, Sunday

Honestly what?! Who the heck thought that this sounded like an appetizing idea. What does that even mean? Are they just giving out chickens? Are there different kinds of chicken? Will the lines be super long? Who is going to wait 30 minutes for unspecified chicken? Did they really think it was okay to keep the chicken truck and get rid of the pretzels?! How were these decisions made? I’m disappointed. I’m also definitely taking out my frustration and stress on this chicken truck. Try it or don’t. This probably won’t sway your opinion that much. I will definitely not be there.
