All Eyes On Amanda Meinschein ’19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Dickinson chapter.

Amanda Meinchein ‘19 exemplifies what it means to be engaged with the Dickinson community. As member of a multitude of clubs and organizations on campus, as well as being an aspiring optometrist, Amanda has certainly found her fit at Dickinson. Since we were so inspired by Amanda’s diverse set of interests, Her Campus reached out to her to learn about her current and future plans.

Name: Amanda Meinschein

Class Year: 2019

Major: Biology with a possible double major in Biochemistry

Hometown: Mount Airy, Maryland

HC: What activities do you do on campus?

AM: I am a member of MOB Executive Board, Dickinson College Swim Team, Climbing Team, Outing Club, and Gaming Club.

HC: Do you have any exciting plans for the summer?

AM: I don’t really have a lot of plans this summer because I might be going abroad! If I am accepted, I will be going to Australia in the middle of the summer, but I do plan to work as a pool operator before I go away.

HC: What is your major and what do you plan on doing after graduating?

AM: I am a Biology major with a Pre-Health track. I might end up with a double major in Biology and Molecular Biology. I’m not really sure yet. Right now it’s Biology. I plan to take a gap year, and then go to optometry school.

HC: What motivates you to work as an optometrist?

AM: I really enjoy working with people and I really enjoy biology. I had a good experience with my optometrist back home, which inspired me to want to be one. I actually have an internship lined up with him at some point! Also, I chose optometry because the eyes are one of the most important organs in the body for people. I want to make sure everyone can see this beautiful world clearly.

HC: If you could go back and give yourself a piece of advice, what would it be?

AM: I would tell my past self to not worry about what everyone else thinks and just be yourself. It doesn’t matter what everyone says, you are you.

Enthusiast of video games, makeup, and (of course) college.
