Work Ethic
Work ethic is the principle that hard work is intrinsically virtuous or worthy of reward (google definition). So, my one question is why doesn’t this generation seem to have much work ethic, or is it just my co-workers who seem to lack it? One of my biggest pet peeves are people who don’t want to work or work hard for their money but then complain about being broke all the time. If you don’t put the work in you don’t get paid, PERIOD. Whenever I seem to ask my co-workers to cover my shift they always seem to have doctors’ appointments, dying dogs, or some other excuse to not work. However, these are the same co-workers who complain about not having enough hours, or who have just gotten a promotion, and yet you seem to always be sick or can’t work. How? Why have a job when you don’t want to work and never cover shifts, especially the new people who have been hired who seem to work only once a week. Being a lifeguard, which is my occupation, isn’t that hard although the long hours of sitting at a pool are tiring, you don’t have to do much because no one ever drowns, or hasn’t yet.
All I’m saying is work ethic is everything and if you didn’t get a promotion or your pay check isn’t what you want it to be then maybe you are doing something wrong.
