What is There to Do?

Zaire A. Davis

The time spent in college is meant to be new, stressful, fun, overwhelming, chaotic, and memorable. It is also extremely confusing. There should be an unofficial rule book for guidelines of what to do when you go out or are preparing to spend time with a significant whatever. I will boldly state that the men in this world are making it easier every day for me to believe that chivalry is dead. Yes, I do admit that some of you still open doors and walk on the outskirts of the sidewalk. However, watching Netflix is not a date and I will not humor anyone into pretending that it can be. I understand that this is college. We are all broke (I think I currently have twelve dollars to my name), I get that. But if you want to spend time with me, there are rules. Do not waste my unlimited texting that AT&T grants me to ask what I am doing (“wyd”). You better ask me how I am doing. This is 2018 and Donald Trump is still the president. I think it is fit to say that we need to be checking on people’s mental health. Second, stop assuming girls have horrendous demands when being taken out. Studying at the library is a free, beneficial date. I would give bonus points because this shows me that you care about your education and are literate. Ice cream cones from the Cold Stone across the street are always a great idea. I am severely lactose intolerant so there would be no issue about me getting a size bigger than a small and making anyone pay anything too crazy. The movies sell tickets for five dollars on Tuesday. Compromise. If I get the tickets, you get the snacks. It is not that complex to put in effort. Do not ask to go out if all you want to do is “chill”. Us girls can do that all by ourselves. I have a Netflix account and two mattress pads on my bed, so there is nothing in any boy’s room that I do not have in mine already. Women, wait for a gentleman to arise. Wait for someone that asks about your life (and actually listens) and someone who you can have an entertaining conversation with while just being yourself. Men, you have got to be better. Do not talk to me if you are going to waste my time. Until you all know how to act correct, we are going to take care of ourselves and keep flourishing on our own.
