Like Water for Chocolate is about the love life of Tita and her forbidden lover Pedro. Not only does this movie have romance but it also has drama, comedy and magical elements to it. Tita the main character grows up in the kitchen and learns she can cook her emotions into the food. Because she is the youngest sister she is not able to marry and must take care of her mother.

I thought the movie was really good. The love situation between Tita and Pedro reminded me of Romeo and Juliet. Both of the couples could not be together because of family reasons.

All Tita has to do is cry a few tears into the food she cooks and everyone who eats it feels the same way. Another thing I liked about Tita was how she did not want her niece to have to go through what she did.

Titas sister Rosaura has a daughter named Esperanza by Pedro. Rosaura wanted her daughter to have to take care of her instead of marrying like Tita. Tita wanted Esperanza to have a chance of getting married. Because Rosaura passed away the tradition ended and Tita raised Esperanza in the kitchen just like herself.

For the film being made in 1992 its shot well. The food metaphors and food scenes are great. The twist at the end of the movie surprised me as well. It is not your average love story.
