Snow Days in Colleges Are Weird
College snow days do not emulate the same feeling of elementary and high school snow days. Getting that call home that school was closed used to be the best feeling ever. However, now it evokes mixed ones. Don’t get me wrong, I do feel happy when I get the call, but it’s different. A campus closing means your options are vastly limited. Typically, on a snow day, our campus only keeps one dining hall open. In addition to that shuttle services are suspended which limits the opportunity to dine off campus. If you don’t want dining hall food your options are Ubereats, Postmates, or that cup of ramen noodles that’s been sitting in your pantry for a hot minute. In addition, to scarce food options, you also debate whether, or not to complete assignments. In high school, you could slide by without doing any work on a snow day and not fall behind. While in college, professors still expect you to complete work and meet deadlines.  A snow day will rarely cause them to change due dates; moreover, they expect you to make use of the day doing assignments. Honestly, they are right. That extra time can easily be used to be productive; however, it’s especially challenging to be when you are trapped in your dorm all day. See, doing work in your dorm is dangerous. Chilling and watching Netflix instead of doing work is always very tempting especially during a snow day. I prefer working on assignments in the library which unfortunately is closed during snow days. Therefore, I get stuck working on assignments in my room. All things considered, a snow day in college is what you make it. It can be as productive, and as relaxing as you want. Just aspire to find an equal balance of relaxation and productivity.
