To the Incoming Hornets

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DESU chapter.

To the Incoming Hornets,

Welcome to the Hornet Family! You may be having many emotions happening, but we have all been through it.  We are so glad you chose our University cause we are the best in the state of Delaware.  No matter where you come from, you are family and we hope to give you the tools to where you want to go.  We have students from the county, some international, and others from the city.  If you are living on-campus or commuting, we have something for everyone. So you meet many people, network, and potentially meet some forever friends.  For four years we are going to challenge you and make sure you have the resources to survive the workforce.  Not only do we provide academics, but there are many organizations and clubs to join.  From honor societies to organizations in your major and minors.  Some fun organizations and clubs include Her Campus, the Gospel Choir, the Fairy Godmothers, Men of Color Association, the Dreamers, and Student Government Association. Some hangout places on-campus include the Student Center where you can go to the commuter lounge, second floor seating area, game room, Chick-Fil-A, or Grill Works.  Plus there is the Fitness and Wellness center, the library, lounges in the dormitories and buildings.  If you get tired of being on-campus, be careful when you cross the highway but there are many restaurant chains, the Dover Mall, and the movie theater.  For those who have a vehicle then you can explore Delaware and  everything it has to offer! There are many events throughout the year that you can attend such as sports games, Homecoming, Spring concert, Election week, and so much more.  We also have support for when you are looking for an internship or about to graduate.  You can visit the Career Center (located on the third floor of the Student Center) and they provide resources such as resume advice, how to write a cover letter, interview prep, the career closet, job fairs, and job or internship searching.  The next four years are going to be eventful, but remember there are going to be temptations.  Therefore, you will also learn some life skills and be sure to not let them prevent you from finishing your program.  Don’t worry, we got you covered for the next four years.  So get ready, get set, and let’s see what you make of the opportunities in front of you!

Sincerely,

Alumni Hornets
