Cardi B = Inspiration

The first time I heard of Cardi I was strolling on Instagram, and one of her many videos popped up on my feed. From that day on I was intrigued. What did this girl from the Bronx have to offer? Soon I would get the answer to my question. A year or so later I turned my TV on and there she was on the popular reality show Love & Hip-hop: New York.
I give you this background story of Cardi B because a few weeks ago she became the first solo woman rapper to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album of the year. The night when I saw the stripper turned rapper accept her prestige award, it put a spark in me.
As a young woman from a place considered the “hood”, seeing someone almost in the same predicament as me win this award, showed me that I was capable of doing just the same. She came from a place where people doubted her and made her feel as if her dreams were not accessible. It’s as if every time someone knocked her down she came back ten times stronger waiting to prove them wrong.
The best thing about this coming of age story is she never changed once. The same girl who caught my attention that night on Instagram, is the same girl who accepted that award. Cardi B has showed me the true definition of following your dreams and making sure you can be the best that you can be.
You can say what you want about her, but she made history and stayed true to herself the entire time. Hopefully one day we’ll all get an Cardi B come up. Just remember never give up.
