Boys are Trash

I do not understand boys. I would say that I do not understand men, but the people I am talking about are not categorized as men. Men protect and respect women. They know how to take care of themselves, how to continuously grind, and how to stand up when they have repeatedly been pushed down. I thought that when I got to college, I would have not only challenges such as stressing for midterms and choking down stale Ramen noodles, but having to face circumstances that involved my educated, chocolate significant other who would just happen to resemble Quincy from Love and Basketball. It is sad that I am two mere months away from being twenty years old and am still having to deal with the immaturities of the male sex. I am tired of being asked what I am doing instead of how I am doing. I want to be taken on cute dates to the movies on five dollar Tuesdays instead of pretending to watch Netflix while we “chill”. I am tired of putting in effort into people who do not put half the effort into even pretending to give a crap about me. Growing up, we have been told from our parents, teachers, mentors, and women we can relate to such as Beyoncé and India Arie that we are queens and to lower our standards for no one, not matter how fine and smooth talking they are. Maybe that is why we are so fed up. When you have been told so many times how great you are, you start to believe it. And once you truly believe that and become aware of the crown that is on your head, it is extremely tough to knock it down. It is hard waiting for what seems like forever for that perfect someone that we are not even sure exists anymore. But keep in mind ladies, all good things come to those who wait.  You are waiting for your knight in shining armor to arrive just as he is awaiting you. Make sure you are ready for when he comes. Be on your grind, get those coins, make those gains, say your prayers, eat healthy and strive and continue to just prosper and be the best that you can be. In the words of the late legend, TuPac Shakur, “I know you’re fed up ladies. But you gotta keep your head up”.
