3 Things to Consider When Trying to Move Out

By Shelynn Handy

Planning  to move out on my own has been one of the top two most difficult things I’ve tried to do in the past two years and it isn’t number two. There are so many things that you have to thoroughly consider and here is what I found while doing my research:

  1. How much is it going to cost? This one is an obvious one, but there are so many things to consider when you have to figure out how much you need to save. I had to research how much most apartments in the area typically cost to decide if I could afford it by myself (no), would I need roommates (yes), and how long I had to save up that much money (my wallet said a very long time).
  2. How am I going to get there? Proximity to my job and school was a very important factor for me. If I couldn’t get between the three in under twenty minutes then it was automatically eliminated from my search.
  3. What do I need? I quickly realized how few things I actually had that were important. College dorm living usually provides you with so many things that a regular apartment does not. Being a real adult means you have to get your own furniture apparently. So I’ve been looking for used things and asking my folks if they have anything that they are willing to part with to help me out a little bit.

I just have to come to terms with the fact that being an adult is never going for be easy.
