Why Valentine’s Day is the Worst

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Alright, alright before y’all start drinking your haterade, let me lay down some facts for you. Now even though the legend of Valentine’s Day is still uncertain, for me and a whole lot of other people it is a holiday created simply to get us to buy all things red, white and pink. Keep your chocolates, flowers and teddy bears, personally if someone was to get me anything for Valentine’s Day I would want definitely want some tacos.

Let me just put this out there- I am currently a single pringle, which is great, but I promise you though that I am not some bitter single lady. In the past, I have had a partner around this time of year, and I have to say Valentine’s Day still kind of sucked when with them, which leads me to my next point in this article… no one is safe. Annoying couples and singles, I’m looking at you. First, let me call out the singles who have the need to post and tweet about being single. We get it. Enough is enough. We don’t need to hear about it every single year.

Second, because I’m not drinking my haterade and I’m a romantic at heart, I love seeing couples doing cute things for each other on a daily basis! Sweet gestures shouldn’t just happen one day a year; it should be something you want to do all or at least most of the time. That being said, those couples who do the absolute most on this day there’s a PSA from all of humanity: please stop. Don’t get me wrong, I think we can all agree that receiving presents is great! However, you shouldn’t feel the need to buy the entire Victoria’s Secret store just to please us.

Even though another Valentine’s Day has come and gone, there is one thing we can all be thankful for: Discounted candy the next day!
