Finals are just around the corner. If you’re anything like me, you’re also dreading them. I know some finals are take-homes and others require you to sit in the classroom for 3 hours max. Both are tiring and require a lot of our time. Here are some tips I have compiled from advice I’ve gotten in the past and some I think are beneficial to have a successful finals week!

  1. Don’t wait last minute to study

I know it can be hard to balance all the finals you must be taking, and cramming is sometimes inevitable. Cramming can actually lead to burn-out, so instead make a schedule and study in intervals. If you know you struggle in a class more than the other, prioritize that one and take the time to actually learn the material.

  1. Find a good study spot

Finding the perfect study spot where you know you won’t be easily distracted is key! I know I get tired of studying inside my dorm room and find myself getting more distracted when I do. There are so many spots on campus where you can study! There’s Julian, Prevo library, GCPA fishbowl, the UB, etc…I love studying on the third floor of Julian, especially in the mornings when people are in class.

  1. Take Breaks

Please take breaks! I know when you’re studying for finals it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. It’s recommended that students study for 30 minutes and take a 10-15 minute break so we don’t burn out and stop retaining information.

  1. Use your professors’ office hours

Talking to the professor about a topic you’re not understanding can be very beneficial! They can help talk you through what you’re not understanding or give you pointers on what to focus on more for the final. Use those office hours because they have them there to help us

  1. Remember to take care of yourself

Make sure you eat enough, drink plenty of water, and get enough rest. Finals week is crazy hectic and I know the week before finals is just as stressful. Have snacks in your backpack, carry a water bottle around, and set an alarm to remind you to get rest.

I hope some of these tips are helpful for at least one of you. Good luck during finals! I know you all will do amazing (:
