Ah, sports movies. Particularly those involving men…gotta love them. A favorite of mine has been Miracle, and ever since I saw it in the theatre with my sister and our friends, it’s been a movie that I’ve always loved. I’ve seen it a few times, and I’ve always understood the big picture, and it always got me hyped (go USA! Am I right?), but when I watched it again a few days ago for the first time in a while, my eyes were opened to so many things I didn’t get before. I’ll share these things with you, and hopefully you can watch the movie and learn some things for yourself, too.
- Hockey boys…oh my goodness they make me swoon. That movie is filled with some of the greatest looking men I have ever seen. And even though they are actors, I know a few hockey players…they really are that attractive. That long flowing hair is strangely enticing, and just thinking of how fit they have to be makes me light headed.
- Good coaches know your true potential, even when you don’t. Coach Brooks didn’t take any lack of effort from any of his players. Ultimately, he made the point that the goal was to win the Olympic Gold Medal, and if every player didn’t give 150% of their best effort, he would not hesitate to kick them off the team.
- Being a member of a team is an incredibly humbling experience. During his famous speech, the words that caught my ear the most were “The name on the front of the jersey is a hell of a lot more important than the name on the back.” When you’re part of a team, you are no longer representing only yourself, but every other person who stands beside you, in the stands for you, and on the sidelines yelling at you, too.
- Hockey is probably one of the coolest sports to watch. The amount of body control that goes into skating while managing to keep a puck in control with a long wooden stick, all on ice, is tremendous. The skill level is out of this world, and the fast pace of the game makes every moment exciting.
- Hockey boys are really, really good looking.
Watch Miracle. Get inspired. It’s based on the true story, and each character resonates with a part of your heart. The twenty college boys who made up the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team achieved something amazing, through nothing but hard work, devotion, and a lot of love for the sport and each other. So sit back, watch all the attractive men skate around, and take away one of these lessons, or more.
