Mckenzie Curran and Grace Ardery

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Who else better to spot light then our very own Her Campus DePauw coordinators? These two gals are all-stars on campus, get to know them better.

Grace:

Major: Communications

Hometown: Bloomington, IN

Greek affiliation: Alpha Phi

Favorite Marvin’s food: Frank’s Fries

HerCampus: What are you involved in at DePauw?

McKenzie Curran: I am the Co-Director of HerCampus along with Grace Ardery. I also am the Reference Chairman for Kappa Alpha Theta.

Grace Ardery: Her Campus (duh!), Mortar Board, WGRE DJ, Alpha Phi Marketing, University Review Committee

HC: What made you want to become involved in HerCampus?

MC: I immediately wanted to get involved with HerCampus, because I loved how it was for all women on campus. Because so many girls are involved in their sorority or other organizations on campus, we often do not have time to get together and work toward a common goal, and I think HerCampus gives us the opportunity to do that. I also love how our staff has the freedom to pursue their interests! The reason the website is so successful is because people are writing about things that they are truly passionate about!

GA: HerCampus is such a new and quickly-growing organization, so I could not wait to get involved. It is a fantastic outlet for college women. HerCampus gives so many people opportunities to be creative and get out of their comfort zones, and it is simultaneously feminine and fun.

HC: What is your favorite thing about HerCampus?

MC: Our bloggers… no doubt about it! I look forward to reading them every week! Ally’s sarcasm, Katie and Sam’s “tell it like it is” attitude, and Blair, Kirsten, and Katheryn’s fabulous insight into the mind of a DePauw girl makes all of their blogs an absolute MUST READ!

GA: The focus on real issues that college women face. HerCampus does not skirt around certain topics, it takes on everything. It is an incredibly relevant and valuable magazine.

HC: What’s your favorite spot on campus?

MC: I love to study on the 3rd floor of Roy in the tree-houses! I love being able to see all of Academic Quad and East College!

GA: The Alpha Phi kitchen!

HC: What has your experience at DePauw taught you about yourself?

MC: It sounds corny, but my experience at DePauw has taught me that I have the potential to do so much if I put my mind to it.

GA: Get out of your comfort zone. Become friends with people who are different than you, go places you’ve never been, take a class you don’t know anything about, study harder than you ever thought you could, and go out when you want to go out.

HC: What is your favorite DePauw memory?

MC: I literally can’t pick just one. It is a tie among Tour de Franzia, Monon, getting my bid to Theta, Camp College, the absurd moments that occur after a long night out at the frats, Theta Informals, and my infamous 21st birthday. Pretty much I am obsessed with this place.

GA: I could never choose!

HC: What advice would you give to freshmen?

MC: As a freshman, I used to get very overwhelmed, but I have realized that taking things one day at a time and having a positive attitude is all it takes to be successful! My advice would be to stay calm and have faith in yourself!

GA: Soak up every minute and study abroad.

Mckenzie Curran is a Sociology and Communication major at DePauw University.
