My boyfriend and I have been together for over three years now and have been long-distance since I went away to college last school year. I understand that there is a struggle because all of the couples on campus are receiving gifts and going on dates for Valentine’s Day and LDRs (long-distance relationships) cannot, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things you can do to show that LDR that you care this 14th of February.

  1. Mail that card!

While it gives off a different effect by mailing a card instead of handing it to that special someone, it can show that you are thinking of them with a paper reminder!

  1. Go on a “dinner date”

Why did I put that in quotation marks? Because once again, it’s not the same as going on a date in person but maybe Venmo your LDR some money for a take-out dinner and FaceTime each other while eating to get the full effect.

  1. Chocolate strawberries

Did you know that high-quality chocolate strawberries can be shipped through the mail? Well, I did and I think that is totally acceptable. Sometimes, there’s even same-day delivery! (You can also do the same thing with a bouquet of flowers!)

  1. A simple text?

Another thing you can do that requires minimal effort is to send a little good morning message saying how much you care about your special someone and how happy you are to have someone like them this Valentine’s Day. A simple text can really make their day!

  1. Plan a trip to go see them?

I can’t think of anything more romantic than giving them the gift of planning a trip to go see them!

  1. A playlist?

A modern-day mixtape, if you will, can show someone how much you care through the love language of music.

  1. Personalized gifts?

Ship a necklace with their initials on it, a star map of when you first started your relationship, or even a picture frame with a cute couple photo of you both in it could be something that would make your LDR happy on this day of love.

These are just a few ideas, but just remember, that even though there’s distance between you and your significant other, you both deserve to feel loved and special this Valentine’s Day, just as much as all of the relationships that can see each other on this day.
