Hannah Cheesman ‘09

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Hannah Cheesman ‘09, or as some of you know her, “Cheese,” not only made the best of her DePauw career, but is making the best of her new life in New York City.  She has taken her fabulousness to the Big Apple, and has graced the lucky New Yorkers with her fun-loving attitude, ambition, and creative drive.  As Hannah reminisces about her years at DePauw, she shares with us her favorite memories and offers advice to current students.

Hometown: Muncie, IN
Current City: New York, NY
Greek House: Alpha Phi
Major:Communication
Minor: Women’s Studies, History

Her Campus:Where are you working now? What are you doing?
Hannah Cheesman: I am an Account Executive at a public relations agency called Coburn Communication.  I work on the Media/Entertainment team representing magazine and television clients.

HC: What are some of your long-term goals?
HC: I’d like to eventually become a Director of PR/Communications for a magazine publisher or television network.

HC: What do you value most about your experience at DePauw?
HC: DePauw was such a unique experience that people couldn’t understand unless they’ve lived it.  Going to school for four years with smart, talented, driven, people who, regardless their particular activities on campus, all had an extremely similar experience, relatively speaking, is something that not many people can say about their life in college.  Any time I run into an alum here in New York, which is not too often, or anywhere, even if we’ve never met, we just seem to get each other.  I finally understand why the DePauw alumni network is so strong!

HC: Where were your favorite places on campus? Why?
HC: Longden. I lived on Longden 3, where I made some of my very first friends at DPU.  Between Longden 3 and Longden brunch, there’s no question that this was one of my favorite places on campus.  The youngsters at DePauw who only know “The Den” will never understand the awesomeness that was Longden brunch!
Alpha Phi. Rush, flower-ins, candle passes, hanging out—some of my best times at DePauw were spent with my sorority sisters in that big white house on Hanna street.
Mogo (Montgomery 1). I lived in what we called “Mogo” my senior year and became very close friends with some really great girls.  It was a ridiculous and amazing nine months.

HC: What is your best DePauw memory?
HC: I seriously can’t answer that. There are way too many to choose a favorite.

HC: What suggestions do you have for current students? For seniors graduating in May?
HC: If you’re not sure of exactly what you want to do when you graduate, try to get as much experience as possible—the more diverse, the better.
Don’t be afraid to follow your dream, even if it means doing something different from all of your friends.
Cherish your last semester.  You have the rest of your life to be a grown-up and just a few more months to enjoy the company of your closest friends and celebrate your accomplishments from the past four years.
Move to New York!  The other NYC DePauw alums and I (we’ve got a pretty big group of ’09 and ’10 now) are recruiting, so if you’re interested, we will do whatever we can to help you out.
