I know you’re feeling it, I am, too.  Midterms are over, but that means full-steam ahead until we hit finals.  I know we’re all tired and I know for fact you aren’t prioritizing yourself!

This week’s article showcases some things we can do to prioritize our own self-care with some inexpensive, DIY activities.  Keep in mind, self-care isn’t just doing a face mask and painting your nails.  Self-care is giving yourself grace, allowing yourself to rest, healing past trauma, and therapy.  But, sometimes we do need a nice bath or a face mask to get us to rest.  So, I thought I would give you a few college budget-friendly ideas of how to take care of yourself.

  1. Hair mask with ingredients you can get from Walmart!

I know it is getting colder, and I don’t know about you, but my hair is incredibly dry.  Here is a recipe for an easy, inexpensive, hydrating hair mask!

You can blend some bananas you got from the C-Store, and some olive oil to help bring in some hydration to your hair.  Leave it on for ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing.

  1. Face mask with inexpensive ingredients!

You can always pick up some inexpensive face masks from the store, but I find that those tend to irritate my skin.  My favorite is the Amazonian Clay Mask, which is a little more expensive, but it has so much product and lasts forever.  You can also choose to make your own mask!

For a soothing face mask, you can add a teaspoon of honey, half an avocado, a few drops of lavender essential oil (make sure you have one that can go on your skin!), and a bit of coconut oil.  This is supposed to be incredibly soothing and relaxing.

  1. DIY body scrub

You can make so many different types of body scrubs, but I am going to share with you my favorite.  All you need to make a coffee body scrub is some coffee grounds, warmed coconut oil, and some water.  This is so easy to make in a dorm and will leave your skin incredibly soft.

  1. DIY calming spray

I make stuff like this all the time.  If you have a few herbs and essential oils, you’re good to go.  To make my sprays, I use some inexpensive toner I got from Walmart, a spray bottle from the Dollar Tree, and your herb or essential oil of choice.  You can just add herbs or oils, it’s really up to you and your intention.  For example, for a self-love spray, I use rose essential oil and peppermint. If you want to get a little fancy, add some rose petals. For a sleep spray, you can easily find some lavender essential oil.  Eucalyptus oil is easy to find and you can easily add this to the body for a simple stress relief spray.

I hope these recipes give you some idea of how to find relaxation and peace during this busy season.  Remember, you deserve it!!
