Although it is no secret that Greencastle lacks diverse shopping, activities and food options, our rural location places us in the middle of a lot of cool spots. DePauw may seem like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of things to do within an hour drive of campus!
Indy
Of course Indianapolis is the obvious choice for a quick day trip or a mini vacation with friends. From shopping at Keystone Mall to hitting the bars in Broad Ripple, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in the state capital.
Raccoon Lake
Raccoon Lake State Recreation Area seems to be a favorite getaway for students during Camp College. Less than half an hour away in Rockville lies a pristine lake, which is a hot spot for boating, fishing and camping.
Plainfield
If you don’t feel like going all the way to Indy for good food and shopping, check out the Shops at Perry Crossing in Plainfield. Plus, the closest Chipotle from DePauw is in Plainfield…need I say more?
Cataract Falls
Do you love the outdoors, but are tired of the Nature Park? Cataract Falls is just 30 minutes away from campus and a great place to hike or explore the waterfalls. Cataract Falls Recreation Area is also a popular destination for photographers hoping to snap the perfect picture of the scenery or a nearby covered bridge.
Exotic Feline Rescue Center
Although it is located only 40 minutes away in Center Point, many DePauw students have never heard of this unique place. The center serves as a rehab facility for exotic cats and an educational zoo-like experience for visitors. It’s definitely worth checking out!
