Autumn Trends You Don’t Want Miss Out On

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

After a long and brutal wait for cool weather to make its appearance, we are finally immersed in the sweater-wearing, candle-burning, pumpkin-patch-visiting, apple-cider-drinking, caramel-apple-eating (did I miss anything?) aesthetics of fall! I’m not sure what it is about the incoming vibes of this fall season, but something has got me even more excited for the falling of the leaves and the crisp, cool air than usual this year.

So, just in case you haven’t seen enough fall fashion articles this season, I’ve got another one coming your way! Today I’m going to give a run-down of some of my favorite fashion trends… on campus and from my favorite fashion bloggers. Hopefully this list will not only spark some inspiration for your fall wardrobe but will get you even more pumped for all this autumn season has to bring!

Flare Jeans

Although I have been unsuccessful at finding a pair for myself, I will gladly live vicariously through all of you ladies, who would absolutely rock this trend. The last time I remember picking out flare jeans was when Miss Me was all the rage, and I gotta say, I’m excited that this style has made a comeback. These are not only the perfect statement piece to complete your outfit, but they look absolutely adorable with a belt and/or your favorite fall top or sweater. Just like that, switching out your normal jeans for the trendy flare can transform your look.

The Wild West (Western-inspired hats, boots and belts)

I don’t know about you, but I am pumped to see hats as a huge trend for the season. Not only that, but Western-inspired hats are so tasteful and classy that they are impossible to resist. When paired with your favorite sweaters, these hats look even cuter, and no one can resist an excuse to cover up that occasional (or not so occasional) “bad hair day.” I love how hats can instantly turn an outfit from casual to fashion forward chic, and can be found at such an affordable price too!

This western inspiration seems to have expanded to boots and belts too, and it’s such a unique and cute style!  Western-inspired belts can be the perfect alternative to the gold-medallion belts that everyone seems to have jumped on. And as a cowboy boot fan myself, I can’t argue against this trend for shoes!

Sherpa Sweatshirts

This trend is one I’ve seen mostly on campus, and I am absolutely obsessed. When I see and wear these fuzzy sweatshirts, I immediately want to curl up and take a nap! While most of the trends on this list can help take your autumn wardrobe to a chic level, Sherpa sweatshirts can double as comfy throw-ons for the days when you rolled out of bed 5 minutes before class. It’s the best of both worlds!

Denim Galore (tackling boyfriend jeans)

Okay, I know I’ve already covered jeans on this list, but I think it’s worth noting a trend that almost everyone has jumped on: boyfriend jeans. While the grunge look has never really been my style before, I have become absolutely obsessed with the boyfriend jean paired with the white sneakers. Such a perfect look for SO MANY different occasions. But at the same time, I always find myself wondering where all of my friends find these perfectly cute and effortless jeans, so I shared a few of my online faves below.

Snake and Cheetah Print

This one should be no surprise either. Essentially every store, boutique, etc. has hopped on this trend, adding a cheetah or snake print to bags, shoes, tops and every other accessory you could imagine. I am especially fond of the snake-print booties, which seem to make every simple fall outfit pop and look effortlessly amazing. Even if you are not a fan of prints and don’t want to center your outfit around these, adding a small accessory with these prints is the perfect way to hint at these trends in your personal style.

Square Necklines

Tops with square necklines were not a trend I noticed until very recently, but I am absolutely amazed by how flattering this neckline is. Whether you’re looking for the perfect party top, date night top or just want to look your best, tops with this neckline are the perfect addition to your wardrobe. While giving your look a sexy edge, they still help maintain a classy style. As I write this, I find myself wanting to shop for this trend right now!

If you want to combine this with another popular trend, look for velvet tops with a square neckline, and you’ll have the perfect day-to-night look.

I hope this list has given you some inspiration for your “sweater-weather” wardrobe, and I hope all of you enjoy the beautiful autumn season!
