Valentine’s Day is a special and fun holiday that is celebrated in many countries. Traditionally, couples exchange gifts of hear-shaped boxes full of chocolate and flowers. But, many people dislike traditional sugary gifts or temporary, and often messy, flowers. Perhaps your partner doesn’t like chocolate, or is allergic. Maybe they have dietary restrictions. Some folks have allergies to pollen on flowers, or have curious pets that can get sick if they ingest the pretty plants. What kind of gifts might they like instead?

Look no further! Here is a list of alternative Valentine’s Day gifts. Pair these with a handwritten love note, and you are good to go!

Self Care Supplies

Our world is a busy world. These days it is important to take time to rest and recharge. Is your loved one in need of some TLC? Perhaps some self care supplies will make the perfect gift. Self care supplies vary, and can range from toiletries and spa products to comfy blankets and socks.

For a good Valentine’s gift, consider getting your partner face masks, a comfy blanket, maybe some fuzzy socks. Really, anything you think they might like to use for self care time. Bonus points if it is something you can do or use together, such as an oversized throw, face masks, aromatherapy, or spa night kits.

Stationary

Does your loved one like being organized? Perhaps they enjoy journaling or crafting. Stationary might be a good option for them. I personally love stationary because of how personalizable it is. Many websites offer personalization for notebooks, pencils, pens, desk calendars, and more.

For a good Valentine’s gift, make them a personalized stationary kit using their favorite colors or patterns. Include items they like to use, such as their favorite type of pens, markers, and erasers. Add a cute notebook and some stickers, put it in a cute box, and you are good to go!

Love Note Jar

Sometimes sweet and sentimental is the best way to go. This gift can be made at home and is inexpensive. All you need is construction paper, a mason jar with a lid, a pen or marker, and optional decorating supplies. Make sure that the mason jar is nice and clean. Decorate it with ribbon, stickers, or even paint the outside. Next cut the construction paper into squares. On each square write down a little love note, compliment, or special memory. Fold up the notes, and fill the jar! Now every time your loved one feels down or sentimental, they can open the jar and read a note.

Photo Album

This is another awesome DIY gift idea. Many stores sell photo albums of all kind. There are also websites that can turn your favorite photos into coffee table style books. If making your own without the aid of a website, simply collect and print your favorite photos of you and your partner together, and assemble them into a picture album book. If using a website, follow the directions and templates to create a perfect album.

The Big Idea

Gifting can be challenging. But, as long as there is effort and the gift comes from the heart, you can’t go wrong. Have a happy and safe Valentine’s Day!
