7 Things You’ve Got to Do During Fall Semester at DePauw

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Thank goodness for DePauw! Spending three months away was surprisingly hard. I began getting great sleep and feeling pretty good all the time, which actually took some getting used to. Not only that, but every Friday this summer, I found myself craving the greasy food that only Marvin’s could supply. It took every ounce of strength not to come back to Greencastle for a day and get my fix. Now that we’re back, it’s time to get down to business and experience all the fun stuff DePauw has to offer. This is your guide to getting the most out of your fall DePauw experience.

  1. Marvin’s

Marvin’s is really a life saver. Their garlic cheeseburger and mac bites are honestly the best. I tried other versions of deep fried mac n’ cheese this summer and nothing compared. Whether you’re studying or just up super late needing some greasy food, Marvin’s is the place to go and is a must fall semester.

2. Don Julio’s

It actually took me a while to get myself there (the walk from Longden to the square was just too much effort), but as soon as I went there for the first time, I never looked back. The food, atmosphere, and price are all great.

3. GCPA performances

Great music for free. Do I need to say anymore?

4. Campus golf

Grab some old golf clubs, a few tennis balls, and aim for anything and everything on DePauw’s campus. It’s a great thing to do with friends and it can totally give you an adrenaline rush when you’re aiming over the fountains and through the people in Stewart’s Plaza.

5. Take pictures of East College as the seasons change

Personally I’m an East College during fall afternoons kind of person, but to know what your preference is, you’ll need to take pictures of it during all seasons, just to be sure.

6. Join a workout class at Lilly

Lilly is a beautiful facility that has an amazing smoothie bar, The Blend. However, many people overlook what else Lilly has to offer: workout classes. Okay, so the term “workout class” may not seem appealing, but hear me out. DePauw offers multiple workout classes a day. The variety stretches from Zumba to yoga to spin class and basically every other class you could want. Not only is it good for you, but you also get the chance to meet loads of great people. Also, you can always grab a smoothie afterwards.

7. The Monon Bell game

DePauw brought back the bell last year, and that’s all that matters. In 1890, the football rivalry between Wabash and DePauw was born; in 1932, the Monon Bell was announced as the trophy that would travel and stay with whatever school won that year. The bell, painted half red (Wabash) and half gold (DePauw), is often the target of thievery by the other school, which only deepens the divide. This year, the Monon Bell game is at DePauw, so no one has an excuse to miss it. Believe me, it’s a game you won’t want to miss.
