Top Ten Essentials for the Fall Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.

And just like that, summer break flew by and we have officially started the fall season. Although there are mixed opinions, we have to appreciate the true beauty of fall; the leaves falling, school beginning, and, obviously, new fall coffee drinks. Every season comes with a change of scenery and essentials so i’ll be listing off the top 10 essentials for the Autumn Season!

1. Leather EVERYTHING!

Leather is the perfect fall material because it’s fashionable and always a statement piece, while still being warm and practical. Leather jackets, boots, and even pants are perfect for any fall season look.

2. The best way to spend a crisp, mid-October day is sitting on the couch wrapped up in a blanket reading.

And although everyone loves their thriller and romance books, we are taking a bit of a spin this season. The book You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero is all the rage! It’s an extremely insightful book that guides you to reflect on yourself and your future. Highly recommend reading it, especially as a young woman in college!

3. We all know that Trader Joe’s has the best holiday treats, but this one takes top tier!

The holiday pumpkin cinnamon rolls are to die for and definitely feed the fall vibes. I recommend lathering them in cookie butter right out of the oven. It’s a seasonal twist to the classic cinnamon roll!

4. It’s time to trade in the cute sandals for a pair of booties!

I always struggle finding the perfect pair of shoes that are versatile, practical, and still cute! As students,, we’re constantly on the go—  working, doing homework, seeing friends. We don’t have the time for blisters on our feet! So, I think I have found one of the best fall booties for this season! The Caliber High Top Sneaker from Steve Madden is a sleek and stylish shoe that complements every outfit. The sneaker design makes them very comfortable and casual, however the slight heel elevates the look, especially with the climbing zippers! They come in light tan and black, and retail for $60. However, I just bought a pair at ROSS for $30! Go get them while you can!

5. As it begins to get cooler outside, I always recommend finding a nourishing moisturizer.

Cooler temperatures can take a huge toll on your skin and one way to prevent that is by applying a cream twice daily. I recommend the Nivea Soft Face Moisturizer because it is super lightweight and doesn’t feel too oily, however it still protects the skin and prevents dry skin. I also recommend the regular Nivea (the one in the blue container) for chapped/dry lips!

6. One of the best things about fall is the fall scents!

From pumpkin spice and apple, to fall leaves and cider, these scents definitely make your apartment feel homey and cozy. Although I’ve had one for a while, I still very much recommend a wax melter! They’re the best things ever! Personally. I just have a regular plug in one, but there are many others that can be added decor. The scented wax tends to run on the cheaper side especially when you buy it from Walmart or the Dollar store. I highly recommend getting one and spicing up your living space. You’ll thank me later:)

7. With the change of weather, you’ve gotta add skin protection and moisturizing to your routine.

I’ve found that one of the best ways to do that is to exfoliate with a scrub that has salt and essential oils. This way, as you’re exfoliating with the salt, the oils are following behind and lathering your body, leaving you soft and silky. I found that one of the best scrubs has been Dr. Teals Pink Himalyan Sea Salt Scrub. It ranges in price from $10-15 and is usually sold at Walgreens or Target. It’s an amazing product, especially in the colder months!

8. This one is for all my foodies out there! As college students, we don’t have the time to cook an elaborate and healthy dinner every night.

Unfortunately, most of the time we have to opt for a frozen meal because of other priorities. However, this new culinary machine is a game changer! The air fryer is a simple machine that “fries” any food without any oil! I have one myself and I put potatoes, veggies, even chicken in there and it fries it to perfection. The best thing is that you just set the timer and let it do its thing! This gadget gives you the freedom to cook well rounded and healthy meals without the time it usually takes to cook one! Although they can become pretty pricey, there is such a wide selection of them that you’ll definitely find one you like in your price range.

9. There is nothing better than finishing up your classes, changing into some cozy sweats, and wrapping yourself in a blanket while you watch Halloween movies.

I would say that a cozy pair of sweatpants are a staple for every person’s wardrobe. You know, the worn in, soft-yet-stylish ones. I recently came across one of the best pairs of fall sweats! Aerie just recently released their Aerie Weekend Hoodie and Jogger Set. This is the perfect set for fall! Not only is it incredibly comfy, but it has a beautiful tie-dye print which is super on trend right now. You can definitely make this look your own and dress it up or down depending on the occasion. Colors come in light tan, blue, multicolor, and white.

10. Lastly, our #1 fall essential for this year is… The Nordic Beach Body Wrap!

If you haven’t heard of Nordic Beach, it is a company that makes the softest oversized sweaters. These beautiful sweaters have an almost sherpa-like material and have pockets as well as a hood. I’m constantly wearing mine because it literally feels like I’m getting hugged by a cloud! They come in a wide assortment of colors and are offered in petite sizes. I highly recommend getting your hands on one of these in the fall! They’re perfect for tailgates, dates, traveling, and studying. The best part is that DePaul has campus ambassadors this year that are facilitating group orders! With an order of 12 or more you can buy a $85 wrap for a fraction of the price! If you’re interested in ordering one, check out @Nordicbeachdeapul or @Patriciaw1215 for more info!
