Meet Luzi Watson, class of 2018! She’s on the executive board for Phi Mu here on campus. Luzi came all the way from Tucson, Arizona to major in PR&AD and has a minor in Hospitality Leadership: all so that she could own a bed and breakfast! Besides Phi Mu, Luzi is involved with Food for Education and sat down with Her Campus to talk about the upcoming event, Cookies for a Cause.

HC: In your own words, what is Cookies for a Cause?

LW: Every year, Phi Mu tries to put on different philanthropy events to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. We’re really lucky in that our local CMN hospital is Lurie’s off of the Grand stop, so we can go see what our money is doing. This quarter, we are putting on a cookie cake decorating competition, Cookies for a Cause. Teams of five people, with a $30 group entry fee, have some time to do their best to decorate a cookie cake. When the time is up, there will be three judges that will chose the best cookie cake design and the organization that wins gets money toward their own philanthropy. The theme of the cakes is going to be geared toward our philanthropy—for the kids! You might have heard that phrase also being used with DemonTHON, which benefits the same place.

HC: When and where is Cookies for a Cause being held this year?

LW: Cookies for a Cause will be this coming Friday, February 12th from 6pm-9pm in the Student Center on the Lincoln Park Campus on the second floor, in the performance area.

HC: What is your favorite part about Cookies for a Cause and why?

LW: My favorite part about putting on our philanthropy events here at DePaul is you get to have other Greek and non-Greek organizations come together for one night out of the week and support an amazing cause. Phi Mu enjoys attending the philanthropy events of other organizations as well.

HC: How is this different from the last year’s Cookies for a Cause?

LW: This is actually the first year that we are having Cookies for a Cause as an event. Last year, we held a bake sale, but our philanthropy chair wanted to do more. If it is a success and people really like this event, then we will talk about putting it on again next year.

HC: How can people not associated with Greek life get involved?

LW: The way in which non Greeks can get involved is just to message our PR chair or any member of Phi Mu and create a team. We encourage everyone to participate in our events; you don’t have to be Greek to attend or participate in Greek put on events.

HC: What’s your favorite part of being a Phi Mu and what’s your favorite memory?

LW: My favorite part about being a Phi Mu is that I have a home away from home here at DePaul. I have about 100 women that I could call if I ever needed anything or just needed someone to listen to me, which is surreal. That support system is rare, and I am thankful for it every day. My favorite memory has to be this past bid day, because after the hard week of recruitment, having all your hard work pay off and have those women run home is the best feeling in the world.

HC: Where could we find you on campus?

LW: A place on campus where you can usually find me hanging out is right outside Student Center room 120AB, a lot of our sisters hang out there and study together and you get to see everyone walking by to get to class.

HC: What’s your spirit animal?

LW: I’m going to cheat a little bit and pick a human instead. If I were to pick a person, it would have to be either Rebel Wilson or Kristin Wiig.

HC: What are your five desert island movies?

LW: I would have to say that the 5 movies I would bring to a deserted island would be: “He Is Just Not That Into You”, “The Holiday”, “Grease Live” or the original “Grease”, “Sweet Home Alabama”, and lastly “Runaway Bride”.
