Meet Aida Moradi! She’s an Accounting major and is minoring Psychological Research Methods. Her dream job is “to just sit and listen to people share stories about their lives.” She says, “I think the best way to learn is through example, and hearing people speak about what they have been through can teach us so much about life.” Most of her time is spent with her on campus social sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha. With being on cabinet for ASA and being a student, there’s not much time to do anything else! As treasurer, she is in charge of the upcoming event, Cupcake Wars!

Essentially, Cupcake Wars is a bake sale with an added competition between the fraternities and sororities on campus. ASA is asking each chapter to create a set of cupcakes that represent their chapter in some way — using colors and symbols and things of the like — and they will have students come and vote on their favorite cupcakes! Judging will be based on taste, creativity, and design. The winner will receive a donation to the chapter’s national philanthropy. This fundraiser is to help raise money for one of ASA’s national philanthropies, Girls on the Run. This organization helps young girls gain confidence by promoting body positivity and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Cupcake Wars will be held on Thursday February 18th from 12-5pm in the Student Center.

Aida’s favorite thing about Cupcake Wars is having fraternity and sorority life come together and support their philanthropy in this fun and sweet way! Cupcake Wars is a DePaul-specific tradition that ASA started three years ago; it took a short hiatus last year, but Aida is bringing it back! Traditions have to start somewhere, right?

People who aren’t associated with FSL (Fraternity/Sorority Life) can definitely feel free to get involved by simply contacting Aida over e-mail  at aidam22@gmail.com! People can also get involved by just buying some goodies from their table or donating to Girls on the Run!

HC: How did you get involved with ASA and become treasurer?

AM: I got involved with Alpha Sigma Alpha a year ago in January. I was a freshman who still had not found my place in college, so I wandered around the Winter Involvement Fair alone, and ASA was the only table that really caught my eye. I went through informal recruitment and few days later I got my bid! I can honestly say that ASA has changed my life for the better, and I would choose this same path all over again. I became the Finance Chair because my sisters actually nominated me into the position. They believed that I would be the best fit for the job, and I am so very grateful.

HC: What’s your favorite part of being an ASA?

AM: My favorite part of being in ASA is the sisterhood and the endless amount of opportunities that the sorority provides the girls. We are so fortunate to have such sweet and loving sisters who genuinely care about one another, and we also gain so much experience through volunteer work and leadership positions within the chapter. My favorite memory would have to be when I volunteered with some of my sisters for the Special Olympics at the Ray Meyer Fitness Center. We did scoring and medals for a basketball event for children with special needs, and the smiles on their faces after each praise of encouragement really warmed my heart, showed me how a little goes a long way and how easily you can change someone’s spirit. Each child was so loving and full of joy; they just wanted to have fun and do well. I think more people can learn a thing or two from those kids. It was the greatest experience that ASA has given me and I know I would not have gotten that experience without them.

HC: What’s your go-to study spot?

AM: For studying, I love going to one of the big tables in Arts and Letters with some friends and we all sit and get our work done together. The windows are nice and big so you never feel trapped the way the library can feel at times. If I’m not there, I’m always at the Loop because I’m accounting major.

HC: If you only got to eat at one Stu station for the rest of your DPU career, which would it be and why?

AM: I would eat at the soup and salad bar. You can always mix and match those options, and it’s relatively healthy so I won’t get greased out by the end of my college career! I would also try to sneak in Brownstones because I can’t live without my bagel and coffee!

AM (A little bonus info): Top secret information, but next quarter I am planning on having a hot dog eating contest between the fraternities and sororities on campus to raise money for our national philanthropy, Special Olympics. It will be a huge event that should be great for people to participate in or just to watch! I know no other organization has done this, so it should be very fun and exciting!
