6 Good Things about Getting Out a Month Later than Most People You Know

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.

It’s almost summer in Chicago! And I cannot wait. While most DePaulians are complaining about having another month of school, I am looking forward to living in the city and relishing in the warmer weather for the mere month we have left. Here’s why I’m excited, and why you should be too:

1.    You’re in Chicago.

Chicago is an amazing city with so much to offer, and we only have one more month to take advantage of it. Don’t waste the little time you have left in The Second City. Ride your bike on Lake Shore Drive or go to a movie in the park.

2.    Friends On Summer Break Can Visit You At School

When you have a month left of school, and all your friends from other schools are on summer break, not knowing what to do with themselves and all the extra time they have, they can spend that time with you. They can visit you at DePaul, and you can show them the city, go to the zoo, spend the day at the beach, hit the bars, or do all three! And it’s the perfect excuse for a road trip.

3.    The Beach.

Another great thing about Chicago is that it is an urban hub as well as a beach town. Not in the traditional sense, obviously, but better in a lot of ways. We have the privilege of being able to enjoy the sites and shopping of a busy city one minute, and then spending a relaxing day on the beach the next. Now that the weather is gradually getting nicer, the beach is one thing that I can’t wait to take advantage of this month.

4.     Chicago is a foodie mecca.

Chicago, being the third largest metropolitan area in the country, naturally, is home/host to a lot of people. Along with a lot of people comes a lot of food, because people like to eat. And Chicago has a lot of delicious places to do just that! Check out a few of the best affordable restaurants in Chicago (affordable cause we’re poor college students, duh). Don’t forget to go to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria—because you can’t be in Chicago without trying deep dish.

5.     Another Month to Hang Out with Your Friends

I don’t know about y’all, but my social media has been flooded with posts saying something along the lines of, “Don’t know what I’ll do without him/her for the next three months <3”. At DePaul, we don’t have to worry about that for another month. I advise spending as much time as you can with your new besties, so you don’t miss them too much this summer.

6.     Freedom.

Do you miss your parent/guardian telling you what you can and can’t do every second of your life? I know I don’t. For others of you who don’t, then you have one more month to have as much fun as you can and make all the mistakes you want.
