Going out to dinner is fun, but don’t you want to spice it up this year? There are so many great things to do around Chicago and you should take advantage of them this Valentine’s Day!

1. Roller Skating

Have you ever admired those roller rink scenes in movies set in the ‘70s? Maybe it’s just me. Either way, I know I’ll definitely be going to Chicago Athletic Association Hotel’s Skate Night on Valentine’s Day! They have skating at either 6 or 9pm and it’s $20 for 2 hours of skating plus $5 for renting skates. They will have music, lights, food, and drinks! If you’re working on Valentine’s Day, they have skating at 6 and 9pm on the 15th too. Put on your bell bottoms and get ready to skate figure eights with your partner!

2. Music Box Interactive Show

Tired of seeing regular old movies for Valentine’s Day? Try something new! The Music Box Theatre has interactive shows where actors act out the movie in front of the screen as the movie plays behind them! Most times this is done for Rocky Horror Picture Show, but on Valentine’s Day you can see The Princess Bride! They’ll have prop bags so at certain timestamps you throw things in the air – way more fun than the AMC! Click here to get tickets and read more about it.

3. St. Valentine’s Day Roaring 20s Pub Crawl

Eating and drinking at just one restaurant is overrated when you can hop from place to place and try lots of new things! Weird Chicago Tours is hosting a pub crawl in honor of the 90th anniversary of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Make your way around all the places that made Chicago roar in the 1920s! Visits include all the criminal and gangster hangout spots (think Al Calpone) as well as the original site of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. If you and your S.O. love crime shows, this is right up your alley. Learn more here!

4. Mixology Class

Instead of buying expensive drinks with your valentine, why not learn to make your own? Giving someone an experience as a gift instead of a material thing can be refreshing, especially if they say they “don’t want anything.” This event is a little pricier, which is why I suggest it as a gift. It’s a hands-on class where you’ll learn to make many drinks from the 4 basics: whiskey, tequila, gin, and vodka. The class will teach you lots of different aspects of mixology – most importantly, taste! Read more about the class and sign up here.

5. Valentine’s Day Tasting & Tarot Card Reading

Do you love horoscopes? Are you superstitious? Find out you and your valentine’s future by getting your tarot cards read! There will be whiskey and chocolate tasting as well. It’s a perfect event for those who cannot see each other on Valentine’s Day because of work or other conflicts. The event is Sunday, February 10th from 2-5pm! You really can’t go wrong with tarot and chocolate. Get tickets here.
