What I’m Listening To: February 2018 Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

Anyone who knows me knows that I listen to music all the time. Here’s what I’m listening to this month.

1. All of The Aces’ new singles

Over the last two months, The Aces have released three new singles in anticipation of their debut album When My Heart Felt Volcanic, which drops April 6th! I LOVE The Aces so I’m really excited for this album. The singles are “Fake Nice,” “Volcanic Love,” and “Lovin is Bible,” so add them to your playlists and get ready to dance!

2. ANTI – Rihanna

ANTI came out in 2016, but I’ve been listening to it a lot lately because it’s definitely my favorite Rihanna album. My favorites include: “Consideration,” “Desperado,” “Kiss It Better,” and “Higher.”

3. Melodrama – Lorde

Lorde’s sophomore album is great. It really is. I think that’s all I have to say. My favorites include “Green Light,” “Writer in the Dark,” and “Supercut.”

4. Jazz music

Recently, I’ve gotten into jazz. My favorite is Ella Fitzgerald (“Angel Eyes” is such a haunting and beautiful song), but I’ve also been listening to Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie. Pro tip: listen to the Nat King Cole song “Unforgettable.” Beautiful.

5. Ladysmith Black Mambazo

On Valentine’s Day, the South African group Ladysmith Black Mambazo came for Denison’s Vail Series. Since I studied abroad in South Africa, I immediately got tickets. These guys are awesome—they’re funny and personable on stage and the music is great. If you didn’t go to the concert you definitely missed out on an awesome time!
