Fairies, princesses, and ballerinas have no place this Halloween. 2012 will be under the reign of the amazing…the super human…the SUPER HEROS!

Who?

Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Superman, and the Hulk are classics. For those looking to put an individual mark of the super hero category, I recommend making up your own super hero with a personalized super power. For example, let’s say chocolate chip cookies are your current food obsession — dress up in tan clothing with spots of brown for the chips and then in your belt have a roll of cookies, a bottle of milk, and a bag of chocolate chips. Prepare to be applauded for your originality and hit up for those late night munchies, if you chose this option!

Where?

If you want a mass produced, impersonal costume feel free to check out Halloween superstores. If not, the best way (and most cost efficient way) is to see what you have and make it work for your costume. Odds are that between you and your friends you have an array of colors for tank tops, shorts, and tights. Just find the right colors for your superhero, print out their trademark symbol then tape to your clothes, and finally add any trinkets you think would make the costume really pop. Just a reminder at parties it is very annoying to have to hold onto something the entire night, therefore it would be best to pose with your prop for pictures and just leave it in your room before you head out.

When?

You will have the opportunity to rock your home made creation Monday, Wednesday (Halloween), and even on the weekend, too. Those days don’t work for you? Throw your own Halloween party any day of the week — the Halloween spirit can not be contained by normal partying patterns.

Why?

Halloween is not just for the lingerie clad girls sporting animal ears. It is a holiday to become someone else for the night, and who has never wondered what it would be like to have a superpower? This the only time of the year we can wear capes without getting strange looks, so let’s embrace the spirit! By being a superhero you make a statement that you can save yourself, no damsels in distress this year!
