Niche Autumn Aesthetic

From the orange leaves to the pumpkin spice to the grandpa sweaters, fall is the best time to be alive. To me, fall is literally a Pinterest board aesthetic and right now we are at the peak of the allure in October. Here are ten things you need to watch and listen to that SCREAM fall in very specific ways. Do not let the best season slip away from you because before we know it’s going to be dirty snow, dead tree January.

Number one:

All too well by Taylor Swift (Sad Girl Autumn Version).

You are probably thinking to yourself ‘well obviously, “All Too Well” is a fall song,’ but hear me out, in october? Too good. I need you to close your eyes and picture this: you grab your best friends, you go get your coffee (River Road, obviously), and you get back in the car. You find some backroads, turn “All Too Well” all the way up and drive through the farmland, point out the cows and the leaves, and shed a tear if you need to. CINEMATIC.

Number two:

“Nothing New” by Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers.

I promise this is not just a list of Taylor Swift songs, but this song is so so sad girl autumn and had to be added. Just like “All Too Well,” there is a specific way you have to listen to this song in fall. To listen to this song at its peak, you have to wait until you have had a dramatic mental breakdown and you have to grab your earbuds and start walking nowhere, shedding some tears. Again, CINEMATIC.

Number three:

Season one episode 7 of Gilmore Girls “Kiss and Tell”. Again, you are probably thinking Gilmore Girls and Taylor Swift, Ana this is not an original list. But LISTEN, this episode in particular is so high school love story fall. This episode literally smells like fall. First of all, you could probably count 15 pumpkins in this episode.Secondly, something about getting your first kiss in a grocery store decorated for Thanksgiving and then running to your best friend who is dressed like a pilgrim is so fall love story.

Number four:

Season three episode 9 of Friends “The One With The Football”.

Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, Ross, Chandler and Joey playing football on Thanksgiving in Central Park IN FALL. This is the most comforting autumn friends episode there is. The one thing better than fall is fall in New York city, do I really have to say anything else?

Number five:

“Hallucinogenics” by Matt Maeson. This list is now going to be taking a drastically niche turn. There is really not much I can explain about this, all you need to do is listen to this song stand outside on a cold fall day. Maybe under a tree Or in your car alone in a parking lot; you will get it too.

Number six:

Season one of “End of the F*ing World.” Again with the strange specifics. But hear me out, this show is so fall. All I have to say is running away, young love, jean jackets, and spooky season. OH, and British people. Autumn, Autumn, Autumn.

Number seven:

“Walking All Day” by Graham Coxon and “Trouble” by Cage the Elephant from the “End of the F*ing World” soundtrack. POV: you just finished the first season of the show I just told you to watch and now you’re listening to the soundtrack, these two songs specifically and walking through campus in a jacket because it is cold. This is Fall.

Number eight:

“California Dreamin” by Mama’s and Papa’s. Now we have arrived back at the more obvious. “All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray” obviously fall. However, to make this a cinematic experience you have to walk. Walk down the hill in the Granville and keep walking just like the song says.

Number nine:

“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” HEAR ME OUT. Ben Stiller, Iceland, and Space Oddity by David Bowie. Something about watching this movie on a rainy fall day in bed with a window open, maybe a candle lit. Too good. This will pull you out of a sad fall slump. Literally inspiring.

Number 10:

Emma Chamberlain’s youtube video “Ugg season”. If you thought you were going to make it out of this list without me mentioning Emma Chamberlain, you were very wrong. This video is exactly how my brain views fall. Her fleece jacket, the uggs, the editing, and the pumpkin baking. Emma gets it and you will too.

Ok, go! We don’t have much time, Winter is approaching! It’s time to have a cinematic October.
