“New year, new me”, “new semester, new me”. That’s what everyone always says going into the new year as they might want to start off the new year on a better foot. But that is much easier said than done because regardless of what month, semester, or year it is we are still the same person and we are still carrying the same baggage as we did the previous semester. Even though a positive and affirming mindset it essential for starting off the new year on the right track, there are real actions you can take to help yourself maintain that “new year, new me” goal you strive for.

1. Set your goals! Resolutions are hard to maintain throughout the year, and once

you slip up you give up entirely! Try writing down a list of achievable, but challenging goals for yourself for the new year. This could be something as simple as “hang out with your friends more” or maybe even “exercise at least twice a week”. This will help keep your eye on the prize and remind you of your intentions for the year! This could be something as simple as “hang out with your friends more” or “exercise at least twice a week”.

2. Spring cleaning! Start the new year by clearing out all of the negative items you may have and start to make room for the new ones! Making sure all of your belongings hold a positive purpose in your life now and in the future!

3. Give positive affirmations! Write down some positive affirmations that you can remind yourself whenever you are feeling in a low point. Because even in our best years, we still have low moments. If you write down a couple quotes that have significant meaning to you and read them to yourself, it can remind you about all you want to achieve for the year and the outlook you want to have. Of course this won’t solve your problems but it can definitely help remind you of your worth.

But just remember, even though this is a new year, don’t change yourself entirely, because the old you is perfect just the way you are! Happy 2020!
