So, my body type isn’t typically found in average department stores, and it makes shopping for clothes a nightmare sometimes. Which means when I discovered Torrid™, (Not sponsored) online, I was a little apprehensive. I’ve heard tales of some Plus-Sized clothing disasters, where shirts can double as camping supplies, or just refuse to allow patterns anywhere near their products. I had no idea what to expect when I entered the store.

The first thing I noticed was that the salespeople were similarly sized as me. Obviously, all humans are different and awesome, but it was nice to see somebody who looked like me who had an awesome outfit on and who exuded confidence. The second thing I noticed was the lingerie corner. Beautiful bra-lettes of all patterns and shapes with matching underwear lined a whole section of the store. Even though I wasn’t there to shop for bras, the idea that a store wanted a person who looked like me to feel sexy- whether for myself, or for others, made me a little emotional. However, tears, even ones of joy, don’t look good under fluorescent lighting.  After pulling myself together, I had to restrain myself from grabbing every single top and pair of jeans I saw. It was the first time I understood the “spree” part of a “shopping spree.”

I loved shopping at Torrid™, it makes me happy to be in a place where I don’t have to worry about the number of “Xs” in front of Large. My body is my own responsibility and my own domain, so it was great to find a place that could make me feel awesome.
