As we approach finals week, and you may find your self at the edge of a metaphoric cliff, ready to jump. I am here to tell you: don’t jump. Everyone who is anyone has been at this edge, and if they haven’t…well maybe they should be writing this article. Having survived two finals weeks myself, I have created simple do’s and don’ts to (hopefully!) help you survive yours.
DO: reach out and talk to your professors! It will show them that you care, and they will answer your questions.
DON’T: stress-eat. While this should be a don’t for all year round and not just finals week, this week is the one week we allow ourselves to succumb to our weaknesses and order that late-night Papa John’s.
DO: Team up with classmates! Study groups can be really helpful for everyone. Others may understand problems you don’t, and vice versa.
DO: Take study breaks. Taking a small break from work can increase your focus, and allow your brain to “cool down.”
DON’T: Pull an all-nighter. While they may seem to help, your body will eventually crash, putting you in an even bigger slump than you were in before.
DON’T: Skip meals! Each meal is important in keeping your body fueled and hydrated – both of which are vital to studying and concentration.
So, with this list, I wish you happy studying and good luck on your finals!
