If you know me, you know that I’m a coffee addict. I live 2 blocks away from a Starbucks at home, which is both convenient and dangerous. There was also a Starbucks on the way to my high school, right across the street from the train station. So, I was that girl in first period who would shake my iced coffee making sure that the sweetener was mixed in, and would sip it as I slowly woke up for the school day.

As you can imagine, the fact that there isn’t a Starbucks in Granville doesn’t sit well with my caffeine addicted, basic teenage girl self. In my lack of signature drinks and collection of rewards for a free drink, I’ve found great coffee places on and around campus.

On campus, I love Common Ground. Conveniently located in Slayter, the cafe offers lattes, mochas, frozen drinks, and more. My personal favorites have been the iced caramel latte, plain iced latte (which I add sweetener to), and the mochas. The weather has recently gotten cooler, so I’ll be switching from my iced drinks to a warm, frothy latte to warm my hands on my way to class. Another thing I love about Common Ground is their baked goods. The chocolate chip cookie and cheddar scone are my top picks.

Now, let’s venture off campus into Granville. Village Coffee is located in the center of town and offers delicious energizing pick me ups. I haven’t explored their menu much, but I’m excited to try their pumpkin spice latte, one of my favorite parts of fall. (Yes, I’m that girl. I love pumpkin spice anything.) Last weekend, my friend and I discovered a gem on the outskirts of town. See, we had planned to go to Village Coffee and get bagels from Streamroller, but Village Coffee is closed Sundays. The more you know. My roommate recommended RiverRoad. As the name suggests, it’s located on RiverRoad just outside of the main street of Granville. It’s someone’s house that has been converted into a cafe, the designs are antique, the floors are wooden, and everything about it screams classic, traditional coffeehouse. I ordered (surprise) their pumpkin latte, which tasted not overwhelmingly of cinnamon and ginger, but of pumpkin itself. I loved it, just ask my friend, who will tell you I didn’t shut up about how good it was.

As college students, we all need coffee. It’s a given. I hope that these recommendations from a self-proclaimed coffee addict give you a boost.
