Campus Celebrity: Roger Phelps

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

Check it out Denison, the Doobie’s got a new DJ this year and his name is Roger Phelps! Roger’s only a first year, but he’s already getting pretty involved on campus. Not only does he have two programs on Denison University’s radio station 91.1FM WDUB, New Music Show on Mondays from 3:30-5:30 and Chillout Sessions on Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30,  but he’s the assistant program and music director for the station. So he’s kind of a big deal.

Of course Roger’s always been crazy about music. Right now he’s really into Australian indie pop music, but he’s still a fan of classic bands like Led Zeppelin and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. And he’s a musician too; throughout school he played percussions, mostly steel drum, but lately he’s taken to the piano. Though he’s undecided on his major, he plans to take courses that will set him up for a career in music business.

Music’s not the only interest for this Cincinnati native. Roger also loves movies, especially the Star Wars series and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As far as new releases go, he’d recommend Silver Linings Playbook because, well, who doesn’t love a dysfunctional love story… But seriously, it has fantastic reviews and Jennifer Lawrence. Go see it.

You can catch Roger around campus playing club tennis, soccer with his friends, and riding his longboard. He also has an off-brand razor scooter, though he swears he’s not a hipster.

Kaitlin is a sophomore at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She is currently studying Economics with a minor in Communication. When Kaitlin isn't studying, you can find her attending events for her sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, writing articles, playing tennis, or watching Bravo obsessively.  As a Bravo fangirl, she would love to meet Andy Cohen.
