7 Ways to Deal with Feeling “Pet Sick”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

Now that we’ve been at school for over a month and classes are starting to pick up, it’s only natural to be in need of some comforting furry cuddles. Aka, dogs. Personally, I know I miss my pups back home more than anything right now. So if you’re missing your animals just as much as I am, check out this fun list to make the separation anxiety a little less painful.

1.     Stress relief dogs. Every so often therapy dogs hang in the library or Slayter to help distress students. These events are not to be passed.

2.     Walk President Weinberg’s Dog. The Weinberg Family are happy dog owners and I’m sure if you asked they would be thrilled to have you over to walk their dogs.

3.     Wag! App. Check out the app Wag! It’s a great tool you can use to walk local dogs (and get paid!).

4.     Get to know your professors. Talk up your professors and see if they have dogs that need to be watched.

5.     Petland. Even though we can’t have dogs on campus, Petland always has some adorable puppies for sale that you can play with whenever you want.

6.     Columbus Zoo. We have one of the top zoos in the world right in our backyard. The Columbus Zoo is a fun and close trip to get your animal fix.

7.     Get a pet fish. Although we can’t have dogs, we can still have some aquatic animals. So go ahead and get yourself a fish! They’re not as cute and soft as pups but they’re still cool to have as temporary pets.

Now I know nothing can replace the wet nose and wiggly butt of a dog you have back home, but hopefully this list will help until you’re reunited over the next break!
