When your 20th birthday falls just over a month before the end of the decade, you simply have to take a moment to reflect. The fact that I’ve been alive for two whole decades is truly wild, and in that time I’ve made memories, friends, and plenty of mistakes. Here are just a few of the many lessons I’ve learned in-between…
-
Don’t heat-style your hair unless you have to.
-
Stop worrying about looking cool.
-
Alway wear comfortable shoes.
-
Wear what you love.
-
Learn to recognize constructive criticism, and take it when it’s given.
-
Tell someone you love them everyday.
-
Real friends don’t make you feel bad about yourself.
-
Your safety and the safety of those you love always comes first.
-
Be kind to yourself, even when it’s hard.
-
Treat yourself once in a while.
-
Tell your mom you love her.
-
Your body, your rules. Period.
-
Participate in class.
-
Stand up for yourself, even when no one else will.
-
You come first.
-
Don’t be afraid to talk to the people around you.
-
It never hurts to ask.
-
Let people change your life for the better.
-
Find who makes you happy and keep them close.
-
Say thank you, loudly, graciously, and often.
