  1. Mere Saamne Vaali Khidki Mei Ek Chaand Ka Tukda Rehta Hai

Singer- Kishore Kumar

Lyrics- Rajendra Krishan

Music- R.D Burman

This song from the film “Padosan” released in 1968 is just too mesmerizing. Its lyrics are so good especially for a healthy flirting that you just wanna time travel to that era so here it is for you to read and listen.

“Barsaat bhi aakar chali gayi

Even the rain came and left

Baadal bhi garaj kar baras gaye

Even the clouds thundered and rained

Par uski ek jhalak ko hum

But for one glimpse of her

Ae husn ke maalik taras gaye

I kept yearning, o god of beauty

Kab pyaas bujhegi aankhon ki

When will the thirst of my eyes quench

Din-raat ye dukhda rehta hai

Day and night this worry remains

Mere saamne waali khidki mein

In the window across from me

Ek chaand ka tukda rehta hai

A piece of the moon lives

Afsos ye hai ke vo hamse

The problem is that

Kuchh ukhda ukhda rehta hai

She stays somewhat detached from me

Mere saamne waali khidki mein

In the window across from me

Ek chaand ka tukda rehta hai

A piece of the moon lives”

In this life, we may or may never meet again.

Humko Mili Hain Aaj Yeh, Ghadiyan Naseeb Se,
I was lucky enough to get these moments today.
Jee Bhar Ke Dekh Leejiye, Humko Qareeb Se,
Look at me closely, sweetheart.

Phir Aapke Naseeb Mein, Yeh Bat Ho Na Ho,
Shayad Phir Is Janam Mein, Mulaqat Ho Na Ho,

Who knows, if this situation will be posed again by destiny.
We may or may never meet again in this life.

Lag Ja Gale Ae Ae,
Embrace me, dear.”

  1. Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat

Music – SD Burman

Lyricist – Majrooh Sultanpuri

This song from the film “Teen Deviyaan” released in 1965 centers around  the divine beauty of women wherein, the comparison is made with a dream, signifying so enchanting to be true.

A stanza of its heartwarming lyrics :-

“Dhadakano ne suni, ek sadaa paao ki

Heartbeats felt the sound of approaching soft foots walking

Aur dil pe laharaai, aanchal ki chhaao si

And heart felt like your scarf fall on him

Aur dil pe laharaai, aanchal ki chhaao si

And heart felt like your scarf fall on him

Khwab ho tum yaa koi haqiqat

Are you a dream or are you for true, a reality

Kaun ho tum batalaao

Who are you? Tell me

Der se kitani dur khadi ho

You are standing away so long from so much time

Aur karib AA jaao

Come close near to me”

  1. Hum Tere Shahar Mein Aaye Hai Musafir Ki Tarah

Artist: Ghulam Ali

Poet : Qaiser ul Jafri

A part of the album “tere shahar mein” released in 1996, this ghazal showcases the pain and sufferings of a lover to see his beloved, he asks her to meet him just once before he leaves, and lastly questions her why did she even give him hope if this had to be their end. Portraying heartbreak, this ghazal makes one realize the beauty and depth of love, the sensitivity of one’s emotions.

“Bhuulanaa thaa to ye iqaraar kiyaa hii kyuun thaa

If you had to forget me, why did you accept me at first?

Bevafaa tuune mujhe pyaar kiyaa hii kyuun thaa

My unfaithful one! why did you ever love me?

Sirf do-chaar savaalaat kaa mauqaa de de

Give me a chance for just a couple of questions

Ham tere shahar mein aaye hain musaafir kii tarah

I have arrived in your town as a traveler”
