5 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Than Humans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delhi South chapter.

Do you ever just feel sad for no reason? There are days when you are consumed by melancholy and it’s not the comforting sort of sadness, it’s the kind that makes you cranky, gloomy, and irritated. You crave someone’s presence but don’t know who that is. The labyrinth of questions keeps troubling you and you don’t know what to do. That’s when your dog steps in and cuddles all your desolation away!

As I am writing this, images of my dog, Buzo, run through my mind. Being my first dog, Buzo was my partner in crime while growing up. From learning how to ride a bicycle with him running behind me throughout, and licking my face every time I fell, to waiting for me on the front porch every day after listening to the horn of my school bus, he was my best buddy. I still remember the night my parents brought him home looking like a small, furry soft toy with his eyes closed. I instantly felt a bundle of emotions that couldn’t be contemplated by a 5-year-old. I was reluctant to go to school for the next week, thinking that he would feel lonely in my absence, and I think that is the purest form of love- to love someone without limits. He was my stress buster during exams, my 3 a.m. rant partner, and my fitness trainer (boy did he run like the wind!).

The hardest goodbye is the one you have to say to your dog. After trying hard to sneak Buzo into my PG, I finally had to say goodbye to him before leaving for college. The sound of his constant barks and the solace of our silent conversations will always make me feel eternally grateful for having spent my childhood with my best friend.

Here are 5 reasons why dogs are better than humans:

  1. Dogs are always there for you: Unlike humans, dogs will never leave you. They love you unconditionally until their last day. They will always be there on bad days, listening to your rants, silent cries, and snobby songs with you. They will comfort you with their adorable presence 24*7. You never have to worry about abandonment issues with your dogs!
  1. They can never make you sad: With their cute little paws and eyes to die for, they will always be your happiness and joy. After a long day, you can lay with your dog, caress him/her, and he/she will take away the weariness & tiredness. They will do anything to make your pain go away.
  1. They don’t judge: Aren’t we all tired of constantly being judged by the world for just being the real us? Well, guess what- you don’t have to constantly worry about validating the world because, for your dog, you are enough.
  1. They will always be happy with the bare minimum: Dogs don’t ask for much except for your love and time. Little things make them happy- dancing with them, playing with them, or just sitting with them while you carry on with your day. They just want your presence!
  1. They are loyal: Dogs can die for you. Their loyalty is beyond questioning! Every time they feel that you are sad, or you’re in danger, they’ll come running for you no matter where you are. Sometimes, they are the only ones who care.

Sometimes, when I play my ukulele, I think of how Buzo would have loved to dance along to the music, no matter how bad it may have sounded. As I sit here looking at his videos and pictures of him running and jumping around on the lawn, being camera shy, I find it hard to explain the relationship that humans share with their dogs. Perhaps, the only way to explain it is to say that it’s like an unspoken connection that brings you security, comfort, and unconditional love. If you’re reading this right now, hug your dogs, talk to them, and play with them because after all, it’s the little things in life.
