Valentine’s Special: Stages of Netflix in a Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delhi North chapter.

The month of Love is here y’all! With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, most of you might be brainstorming ideas to make your special one feel even more special. Valentine’s Day is all about surprises and excitement after all. And in between this fervent excitement and anticipation, come memories. Memories of flowers, chocolates, teddy bears and those heartfelt love letters. And slowly, you dive into the magical world of Love!

Your heart starts recollecting those tender moments of adoration, those fleeting moments of unspoken understanding and warm hugs. You recall the first time you saw that special someone, how your stomach felt those butterflies, how you used to talk all night and lost the track of time. You get lost in those romantic dates and the memories of those sweet nothings you messaged each other. You remember all the dates went wrong, all the awkward moments which turned you into a couple, all those times when you had to miss each other and times when you felt a sense of belongingness and endless celebration and of course, the times when you fought.

But like everything else in our lives, COVID has succeeded in making an impact on our love lives as well. Well, this time in a good way, for once! It has added yet another souvenir into your box of magical memories. Ahaan, your guess is right, it’s Netflix and chill moments with Bae! Hold your breath people, we bring to you your memories wrapped up as ‘Stages of Netflix in a Relationship’, a pretty little Valentine Gift from me to you!

Shared Accounts

This is the first stage of any relationship on Netflix. It’s the first step, you can even compare it with your first date. Passwords are exchanged and both of you begin to trust each other with arguably one of your most prized possessions. The phrase ‘sharing is pairing ‘ is given meaning through Netflix accounts.

Watch what they want

This is the second stage of a relationship on Netflix. It’s like getting to know each other. What the other person likes, what they dislike. You want to make the other one happy, so you sacrifice your favorite show for their favorite show. Sweet right!! Be it watching Suits or Friends, you’re ready to do it all!

Late-night watching

*2 AM*

She: Please don’t sleep, I like this movie.

He: Of course, I’m not even sleepy yet.

She: Are you sure? Your eyes are drooping. (narrow eye look)

He: No way, not at all. (Puts eye drops, still struggles to keep eyes open, wears eye clips)

Sound familiar? You must be a new couple!

Scary movies

Watching a haunted movie lying in each other’s arms is a different feeling altogether. Right!! First acting brave and then requesting to hold hands, it’s just so exciting! Most of you watch those movies just because of that, don’t you? *winks*

Documentary Detectives

The next stage is the discussion stage. This stage starts when you’ve finished all those romantic shows. You get bored with scary movies and holding hands. So, you jump onto documentaries. This is the stage of discussions, debates, and opinion clashes. As it’s said, couples that grow together, glow together!

Anger watching

The previous stage gives room to this stage. You fight over that unsolved murder mystery and that unmatched opinion. One of you starts a show without the other and the other starts giving the spoilers, in an attempt to show your anger. This stage is a real deal guys, you’ll get through this with caution. Be mature, don’t let your ego do the talking. It’s you against the problem not you both against each other!

Cooking shows

You get over your fight and decide to strengthen your bond. You decide to try that delicious recipe shown in the cooking show. You try, blow up the entire kitchen and end up cursing the show director for making the recipe look so easy!

Too many users

At this stage, you suffer from a ‘too many users ‘ problem on Netflix because your partner shared your password with their cousins, cousins’ parents, best friends, basically the entire family. You feel irritated but think they’re so cute at the same time. Sigh.

Can’t decide

The stage of sacrifices is long gone. And now none of you wants to miss your favorite show. So, you end up arguing and can never decide what to watch. You start bingeing on YouTube instead.

Have a blast with your special one this Valentine’s, feel nostalgic about Netflix and Bae, and don’t forget to share your beautiful memories with us. Don’t shy away with the embarrassing ones!!

Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!
