Rewiring your mind by refining your Instagram feed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delhi North chapter.

Hey all! Did you just come here after scrolling through your Instagram feed in search of something interesting? Well, let’s admit how we all have become accustomed to being entertained within a few seconds that our minds do not have the attention we wish for. There was a time when reading a book was the best pastime. It used to take us a few days to go through it and we enjoyed resonating with its very essence over a couple of days. Then came the cinema, which gave us a dose of entertainment that stayed with us for a few hours. But with Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms, inciting our appetite to devour more and more entertaining stuff, our patience levels have unarguably shifted to the left side of the number line. By virtue of innumerable, 10-15 seconds of reels and short videos, our brain now looks for something new every 30 seconds and we end up constantly refreshing our Instagram feeds.

Well, we understand that you all have been sick and tired of being preached about the disadvantages of using social media and how the advent of technology can actually cripple us in the near future. So, just come back from imagining your future-self held by the fetters of the man-made master and try not switching between black and white circles instantly. There also exists a grey area where you can function because it’s inevitable to completely cast aside social media or have your heads dug there round the clock.

Let us acknowledge the fact that using social media irresponsibly does pose some very grave disadvantages but the need of the hour is to exercise rationality in our consumption of content online. This definitely doesn’t mean that whenever you come across a laughable meme, you become alarmingly conscious of what you see and end up panicking. Of course, you can chuckle at it but then just move on! Just refrain from mindlessly scrolling through your feed and don’t forget to give yourself some time off-screen!

You’re unquestionably entitled to your daily dose of entertainment but it is equally important to consume content that makes sense. There are multifarious pools, exploding with content but it’s on your part to make way through them and dive into the pool of content that you want to consume and not what these click-bait diving boards want you to gallop. So, here we are with a  list of our favorite Instagram accounts/page recommendations that may help you to rewire your brain and might also trigger you to shift your consumption pattern on the app.

Ankur Warikoo as a part of your daily routine!

First on the list is Ankur Warikoo. Going through this genius’ Instagram posts actually helped me sail through one of the dark and low phases of my life in 2020.  We’ll leave it up to you to go and explore his account! We can vouch that you cannot resist resonating with what he posts about. His live streams are the best thing to look forward to. Start going through his Instagram stories before hitting the sack because they embody another set of great content that vanishes after 24 hours.

Getting the zen vibes with Robin Sharma

Well, before moving on to the second one, let me ask you a question, “Are you a part of the 5 AM Club?” It doesn’t matter whether your answer is a yes or a no, but your super accurate guess about who’s this one, matters for sure! Robin Sharma’s Instagram account can play an instrumental role in rewiring your brain and help you free yourself from the clutches of the age-old rule book written by our society. Reading his posts and watching his short insightful videos can aid in not deviating towards living a life that is a social construct but the one which is ideal in your own eyes, defying the barriers of fulfilling the expectations of others around me.

Your daily dose of news with Brut India

The third one has to be Brut India. It is that one online library where you would find videos and posts on every genre linked to global happenings and national events. It is our go-to account whenever we feel uninspired and often end up extracting fodder for my motivational instincts. It helps in developing perspectives on a wide range of affairs!

Shakin’ the stress off with Simon Sinek

The next on my list is Simon Sinek. I believe the majority of you already know him or must have read his popular work: Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. His Instagram account and YT channel are irrefutably gateways to undiscovered nuances on some of the most intricate practicalities associated with the world of business and leadership.

Differentiating the real you and you with Chetan Bhagat

Before, jumping straight to the next one, I require you to answer this question in your head: Do you follow any pages that claim to present great quotes, which may or may not spur you instantly with motivation? Well, just for once try following our nation’s bestselling author and one of the most influential personalities i.e., Chetan Bhagat and you will definitely see a change in the sustenance of your zeal. You are surely gonna love his posts and shall end up succeeding in the battles between You(the not-so-you) and Yourself(the real you).

Read real-life experiences with The Better India

Another page on my list has to be The Better India. It is the most positive space on Instagram. It has scads of bright, extremely optimistic, heartening unheard stories of people from all spheres of life. They are all curated in an amazing fashion and I cannot help being redirected to its website to read them up in detail.

Max Bollywood vibes with Pixoury

We are lately obsessed with Pixoury. Find the soft, soothing music with meaningful lyrics here. All the melodies from Bollywood movies are presented in an unthinkable manner and you can instantly decide what song is gonna be on loop for the next few days.

This is of course, not an exhaustive list. There are certainly many more Instagram pages/accounts that harbor quality content worth consuming. Hope you all will consider altering your online consumption habits and boost your productivity through the best use of social media!
