7 Evergreen Feel-Good Movies to Watch After A Break-Up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Delhi North chapter.

While dating is said to be no child’s play, when it comes to breaking up, even adults can’t deal with them without acting like an infant! Everyone loves surprises but no one loves (or even likes) shocks! Breakups often come as a shock. You may either be the receiver or the doer, breakups are messy with all the crying and self-sabotaging spiraling involved. It’s difficult to forget all the memories you made with your ‘SO’ or having that support or the warmth but the sooner you accept that it happened, the better it gets!

Just to add to your acceptance phase and to make you feel slightly better, HCDN is here to rescue you from all your super emo days and make you feel good. Grab yourself some comfort food and curl up in your rug to feel better with these feel-good movies. They might not make you feel the best, but at least better!

Someone Great

No other movie to start the list with. Reel-life is unrealistic compared to real-life but the way this movie portrays breakup is exactly how heartbreak feels like. After Jenny is devastated post-breakup with her long-term boyfriend, her best friends take up the mission to make her feel better and have the most adventurous night in NYC before she leaves the city. Someone Great is all about heartbreak, love, life, adventures, and everlasting female friendships! You’ll definitely find the lost ray of hope and call your girl gang for a day out after you watch this!

Eat Pray Love

One thing we all look for after a breakup is a chance to discover ourselves again. Some get their hair cut and colored, some find new hobbies and some take a solo trip only to realize that true happiness lies within self! Elizabeth travels around the world to explore good food, the beauty of life, and peace with herself after ending her failed marriage. In case you crave more after watching this wholesome movie, read the book that the movie is based on!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

When your friends will keep telling you that it gets better, you might keep feeling that the world is ending. Forgetting Sarah Marshall will be your ray of hope as an affirmation that things get better. When Peter takes a vacation to Hawaii to get over his breakup, he finds his ex-girlfriend Sarah Marshall vacationing at the resort. This one is for all the people who are nervous to go back to their workplace or university with a fear to bump into their ex. It does get better with time!

He’s Just Not That Into You

Just as the name suggests, it’s high time to stop doubting yourself and realize he (or she) is not just that into you. We all are crushing over Jennifer Aniston ever since FRIENDS (the hangover still stays) so this cannot go unwatched. A movie that shows the complexities of a relationship and heartbreak. Maybe this is what you need when you are entering the phase of singlehood again.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

We are sure that you have watched this beauty before. But you really need this. Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind might not make you feel better with a smile but might give you a good cry and as we know, no better way to vent than crying! Joel tries to wipe his ex off his mind completely. Isn’t that something we all want to do after a breakup? Keep your tissue box and ice cream tub handy before you start watching this!

Silver Linings Playbook

Now that you have cried your eyes out, maybe it’s time to smile a bit! It’s better to try moving on than living in a denial. Silver Lining Playbook is about 2 people who try to get over their previous relationships, fighting their demons hopelessly and there’s also some dance (and love) involved! Watch this one for a bittersweet experience.

Life as We Know It

This one isn’t really about love but definitely stands by the category of ‘feel-good’. Eric and Holly are set up on a date by two common friends and they end up hating each other. When destiny plays its role, both their best friends die in an accident, leaving their child behind. This is Eric and Holly’s story of raising their best friends’ child together. It’ll make you realize that even when you feel like giving up, keep going for there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Break-ups are tough and moving on is even tougher but nurture the process of growth and realization while it stays and do not text your ex. You’ll end up finding things about yourself you didn’t even know existed in this process of healing. Keep going, do not give up, it will get better. While you are at it, here’s a complimentary to-do list (after the breakup) by Rupi Kaur!

P.S., When something breaks, if the pieces are large enough, you can fix it. Unfortunately, sometimes things don’t break, they shatter. But when you let the light in, shattered glass will glitter. And in those moments when the pieces of what we were catch the sun, I’ll remember just how beautiful it was. Just how beautiful it’ll always be. Because it was us. And we were magic. Forever.
